Yes, Oddo has been horseshit for Milan this year. He has done nothing right.

Haha...well it's pretty hard not to tbh.

I guess that's fair enough then...I STILL don't have lots of faith in Donadoni though...

Four, Count em', Four Giallorossi In Azzurro!!!

    Daniele De Rossi
Got to start, right? Clearly the best midfielder in Serie A this season, he’s simply a class above the rest when it comes to Gattuso and Ambrosini, his likely competitors/partners in the midfield alongside The World’s Best Right Foot (eat it Becks, could you have made that assist for Grosso against Germany? Thought so......)

There’s a chance that it might - this is Donadoni, after all - but that would be a major mistake. Daniele’s skill set combined with his grit and determination will ultimately be the key to winning the battle in midfield. Number 10 should, and most likely will, play every game from the start.

    Christian Panucci
More likely he’ll either be a reserve CB/RB off the bench; or, if Fabio Grosso doesn’t play up to his typical Azzurri standards, he’ll be starting on the right with Zambro on the left. And, should the Azzurri win a free kick just outside the box near the goal line, Panuccigol is a good as gold.

    Alberto Aquilani
The wildcard. He may start or he may spend most of the tournament on the bench. If he plays we all know what he’s capable of, which is probably close to or just short of Gigi Buffon’s expectations of him: see Gigi thinks Alberto can be the best midfielder in the world someday soon (future recruiter, he is). Perhaps he’s just impressed that much in training camp? Which of course leads one to believe that Alberto will be in the starting XI come the 9th of June, or at the very least will make his way in before the tournament is over, but we shall have to wait and see.

    Simone Perrotta
His ratio of coach appreciation to fan appreciation is off the charts, and he’s one of the prime examples of why coaches are in the spots they are and fans are watching from home. His off the ball movement, workrate and stamina are second to none. If you can’t have otherworldly, Totti-type talent, he’s the next best thing. And for all of Donadoni’s shortcomings, I think he’s come to realize this. It just all depends on how Donadoni wants to work the midfield. Perrotta can play in a more central role, the treq position he performs for Roma or even on the wings as he was used under Lippi and in the late stages of this season. How could a coach not love the hardest working attacker in the world. Kuyt who?

I honestly have no idea how much he’ll play, with part of that being a credit to his versatility. And while he may not be in the sexiest XI, he just might be in the best XI, and that’s all that matters.

Logic says one of Aquilani (more likely) or Perrotta (less) should be in the starting XI, but when has logic ever figured into The Don’s thinking?

Il Capitano Cannavaro is ruled out for the Euro 2008 - huge huge blow for the Italians. Coz Donadoni hasn't given any youngsters the chance to play competitive games....

I hope its Gamberini who replaces Cannavaro. Or the kid Santacroce.

    Cannavaro Officially Out Of Euros

The Italian FA have confirmed the bad news all Azzurri fans were fearing: captain Fabio Cannavaro's injury rules him out of Euro 2008.

This afternoon World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro suffered a knock to his ankle after a clash with Juventus hardman Giorgio Chiellini during Italy's training session. After staying on the ground for a while, he was taken off on a stretcher and then to a hospital.

Tests confirmed that the injury is serious and the player will probably have to be operated. More tests will be made in the next 48 hours to ascertain the entity of the injury, but one thing is for sure: he will not be able to take part to Euro 2008.

The name of his replacement will be announced in the next few hours by coach Roberto Donadoni. Most probably it will be Fiorentina's Alessandro Gamberini, also a central defender.

Right after the examinations, Italian journalists awaited Cannavaro, who told them: "I'm going home," with a melancholic smile on his face.

For those who can read Italian, Panucci may also play in the middle (according to gazzetta). If that were to happen, Grosso would be at LB and Zambo at RB.

I'd say that Matrix should be the first choice for the central defence now, together with Barzagli, due to his experience. He is a crazy idiot, but I'd still prefer him over the other alternatives.

Not much time left to let the defence gel, and Matrix has been training with the squad at least.

Gamberini has been called up to replace him I think. What a massive loss for us. I just hope Barzagli re-discovers his form. He's not been great for Palermo this season...and moving to Wolfsburg for money reasons makes things seem worse.

Barzagli looked ill at ease during the game against Belgium, where Cannavaro was a rock. Big big loss. I am really scared of the prospect of seeing Barzagli-Panucci as a CB partnership, that would mean certain disaster.

    I would prefer (in order):

    1. Matrix-Barzagli
    2. Matrix-Chiellini
    3. Barzagli-Chiellini
    4. Matrix - Gamberini
    5. Barzagli - Gamberini
    6. Gamberini-Chiellini

I would prefer the above 6 to the proposed Barzagli-Panucci partnerhip!!!
