They've been dire in the KO stages - Chelsea actually play far more intricate football when they get going.

So, van der Sar was a bit of a c**t during the penalties - pulling faces, taking an age to reach his line, standing over Terry after he'd missed. Seeing the penalties being taken, it just strikes me that it's a useless way to decide a competition. A minor slip, or a player in Anelka who really couldn't give a $h!t, decides the thing, and it feels hollow.

Me too, because he will get slaughtered by the (German) press again, no matter if he's actually responsible or not.

Would have liked to see him win, and Chelsea would have deserved it indeed (two shots against the post), but that's football. It may be a blessing in disguise from the German perspective though, because now he hopefully will be hungrier to win Euro 2008 (or not, because he's too devastated; time will tell).
