Re: Do you miss England?
it's a brilliant Cup without the English
the whole event is 100% about the football
and the English TV spectators are LOVING EVERY SECOND OF IT
fortunately, South Africa 2010 will also be without the Three Lions
think about it

Has to be said, footballing wise I dont miss them at all ( I know they have the best team in the world on paper)
But for the board its a shame they are not here, luckily Germany is showing a lot of GD and with Odonkor on even PGD!!
Germany is a poor man's England

If that were really true we'd have beaten them in September, I wouldn't have then had to don Avartars in tribute to Michael Schumacher for a week, and they'd be watching the tournament at home whilst we're getting embarrased by the Croats... Oh wait.
Anyway, I'd say the best aspect of a Major Championship without England is the fact that you don't here anyone's National Anthem being booed. I suspect a lot of the dislike of us that comes from UEFA/continental Europe is as a result of that.

I miss England! I'd rather have England than Poland, Swiss, Austria, Russia or Greece... They at least have more quality them...
Second, Englaish are fanatic so that's always superb
I don't miss their boring football from time to time... Too many overpaid superstar too little great football... If England could get their feet back on the ground it is perhaps a joy to watch...
BTW some games of England are a joy to watch but that's more because the opponent outplays them with good passing of the ball between the static England defence!

You can accuse England of alot of things but not boring.
Euro 2004 - Portugal vs England
World cup 2002 - England vs Brazil
World cup 1998 - England vs Argentina
Some amazing games.
Even the game against Portugal was full of incidents and that was a 0-0 draw!

I repeat: the football was boring from time to time but some games were superb because of other aspects... I hope the coach after Capello brings back the English style of football! fast and attacking instead of slow and defensive.

It is always fun with England because they bring drama to the table. They have good players that should be there. hopefully they make it to South Africa.

Wow, totally 50/50
As an Englishman, no I don't miss them, i'm fed up with the media hype, biased commentry, 100% coverage of the England team with total disregard for the fact that there are other teams competing in the competition. The inevitable disappointment and the next month of debate and pointless chatter than will surround it.
A refreshing change says I.

Re: Do you miss England?
Funny how the president of UEFA, who is French, said the tournament isn't the same without England.
Otto is just being a fucktard. The best tournaments are tournaments with all the best teams.
I don't understand why people would be more happy to see Germany vs Poland than Germany vs England etc...

Germany always seem to qualify for tournaments as 2nd best in the group also. Germany hadn't scored a goal in the European Championships in f@ck knows how long...until this tournament.
You are more deluded than I thought if you think there are 14/16 European teams better than England tbh...

I don't mean to sound rude, but calling others deluded is a bit laughable if you *still* believe that England deserved to be at this tournament. Ok, you can blame Mclaren, but the fact is that the national team is the full package of manager and coach and staff that represent the country, and that England setup simply weren't good enough in qualifying. To say otherwise is just ifs, buts, and speculation.

Re: Do you miss England?
I agree with Otto, Russia have much more quality than England. This team is too immature, we will have to wait till the younger more talented (intelligent) players blossom. Hopefully they don't get blinded by the hype - players like Lennon, Bently, A Ferdinand .. look like they already have.Eurottomeister wrote:Deano-Forza Italia wrote:

PS Enland are better than Cech, Austria, Poland and probably Swiss but worse than all others. Probably wouldn't get out of the group stage.

Look at all the other Cr@p managers who's team have still qualified - Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands...kas wrote:Deano-Forza Italia wrote:You are more deluded than I thought if you think there are 14/16 European teams better than England tbh...

the teams who beat england in the qualification will (probably) both be in the last 8.

huh... I think we know England didn't qualify but half of those teams there are certainly no better than England, including Russia who qualified ahead. Not sure how England ended up losing in Russia, but it was a beyond easy 3-0 at Wembley.

Re: Do you miss England?
Alright then, define "better".
Let me guess, player reputations/quality? I think we all know that int'l football (well, all football, but specifically in this form of the game when players are only together for a short time) is all about how the team gels and raises its game, not how many good individuals you have.

Re: Do you miss England?
As a team England are not better then several teams in the Euros but they have some good players still. imo the team that reached the quarters in 04 and 06 is not different from the side that couldnt qualify. i wish England had qualified now but in the long term it will prob be better for them.

I'm not sure I do miss England...I prefered to go out and lose McClaren rather than continue with him into the Euros, which would have been embarrasing. I'm enjoying the football more now England aren't here - I'm not watching Holland and thinking '$h!t we have no chance,' I'm watching Holland and thinking 'What brilliant football, this is great to watch.' Watching this tournament is more enjoyable than the frustration I felt while watching and supporting England at WC 2006

I do miss the atmosphere when there's an England game, jam-packed pubs and excitement. But yeah, we got rid of McLaren and will hopefully see the benefit of this long-term.
And we've no horrendously painful penalty shoot-out loss to look forward too
