Indeed. Stupid foul, exactly what the Czechs wanted.

This Czech side reminds me more of Greece 2004 than Czech Republic 2004. Probably they have no choice after losing Rosicky. The defence is their strenght, and they play accordingly.

Switzerland - Czech Republic 0:1 FT

Czechs with a rather lucky win, but Switzerland should have used their chances better.

Really looking forward to the Portugal - Turkey match, which should be better.

Poor match. I hate it when a team has the quality to play offensive and play on the counter. Expected pretty much more from the Czechs.

Switzerland is a more limitated side so they rely more on their willpower. It wasn´t enough against an experience side.

Something tells me we will see a lot of counter attack teams at the Euro.

Great guy, that Sverkos, who scored the winning goal. He just said that it was a rather lucky win for the Czechs, and that Switzerland was the better team. ok

    Maybe Koller should just retire.

I don't get why everybody is expecting the Czechs to play brilliant attacking football.. Look at their team, there isn't much quality in it IMO. I don't think they have the players to play sweeping attacking football.

Exactly, they don't have the players for that anymore, especially now that Rosicky is not available.

Their strenght is their experienced defence / defensive midfield, and they play to their strenghts. It is legitimate.

Not brilliant but at least try to play offensive. They just defended and played in the counter. They might not be a top team but they can do better than that.

A disappointing opening game. The Czechs were clearly the better technical team, but they didn't create much at all and the Swiss will rue some poor efforts when well-placed. Set pieces and balls into the box were really poor throughout from both sides. It's a shame for the tournament, the hosts don't appear to be overly enthusiastic so far, and a Swiss defeat won't help that. A win today and they might have started to get into it a bit more. Looking forward to the next game though, should have more quality.

I was thinking just that. Strong and organised defence. It's possible that they were playing it rather more safe today - as the away team.

Be interesting to see how Swiss respond to this. I think it's a good job they've got Turkey next, if it was Portugal I'd fear for them going straight out, but a win against Turkey and they'll have a shot.

But overall, neither team impressed me in attack. For Czech, they were just slow and unimaginative with Koller, and just counter-attacked for the majority. For Swiss, with Frei injured, they have Streller -who looked useless and Yakin -who was pretty wasteful. Behrami and Barnetta may be promising, but neither got into this game at all.

Btw, who got the assist? was it Jankulovski (fingers crossed for my ff team Wink )

They were very chaotic at times. Cech was furious with his partners. He was in fact their best defence. They were also rather lucky than organised.

He just said that Ferguson has a rule not to sign players after a major tournament because they tend to be overpriced. Which leaves me a little perplexed, I could have sworn Ferdinand, Rooney, even Hargreaves were signed on the back of their performances at major championships.

Kazim-Richards is playing, there is an Englishman playing at the tournament!

Maybe its because the two fools commenting the match on Polish TV were driving me crazy. Raving all the time about the Italian quality of Czech defenders as they all seem to play in Serie A. Smile
