Cech has been below par since returning from injury IMO

What is your obsession with Lemon? He was a good goalkeeper... Was superb for Germany at the World Cup but he is getting older and is clearly not as good any more. At least he is in a very deep valley of his career.

Maybe, he has to look at van der Saaar. Everyone was writen him off 1 year ago. He was too old, not sharp enough bla bla bla.... but look at him now. He is again the best goal keeper on the planet.

    So....there is hope for Lemon!

Van Der Saar is very good, but he's never been the best in the World.

Not in Schmeichel's time, not in Buffon's time, and certainly not with Gomes, J.Cesar & Casillas around.

He's on the same level with Cech, and barring those 2 disastrous games at Old Trafford and Goodison Park in the last 2 seasons, Reina is the best EPL 'keeper.

Lehmann, whilst he should've never been dropped for an average no.2 like Almunia, is over the hill and far away. Germany have plenty of good young keepers to choose from, both he and Kahn (plus their giant egos Wink) should've been cast aside after WC2006.

Lehmann did produce many howlers like that, his head was called for and his head was taken. He is now producing the same howlers for Germany (see Croatia game) so it's only a matter of time (maybe even after tonight) until his head is taken from germany as well

Cech's rep as one of the elite keepers in the world is now in ruins. Is this not enough for you otto ? Wink

It was poor from Cech, but keepers will always make errors. Van Der Sar has his flaws, despite what Ric or Rai will tell you. Reina does some truly shocking things at times, and i was a little shocked that Casillas didn't keep out Ibra's shot yesterday.

Keepers aren't perfect, and never will be. To make mistakes is human, and Cech showed that yesterday, he's no super human goalkeeer, even when he was playing out of his skull (HA HA HA) he still had flaws.

Untill then Cech had really dominated the area having control of pretty much all crosses. but that is easily forgotten for many.

Well he is the key reason why the Czechs are on a plane home. Regardless of what he did beforehand, mistakes like this are unforgiveable for a keeper of his supposed class.

Terry slipped and Anelka took possibly the shittest penalty in my living memory.

As a spurs fan, I know about the class of Gomes 1st hand. Buffon has kept his team in the tournament with the Mutu penalty save, and whilst Casillas let in a soft goal on Saturday, just ask the Madridstas where their club would be without him.

Couldn't have picked a worse time to do it, though 1 major mistake doesn't suddenly take you out of the elite league overnight. Otherwise, there wouldn't be an 'elite league' of players at all, because the only faultless player in the world would be Gerrard.

On form this season, he probably wouldn't make the top 10, though he missed a chunk of the season with injury, and was played despite being injured by Grant.

Shouldn't overlook his saves v Switzerland and - until the error - v Turkey.

    Really ?!

His 1st 2 and a bit seasons, he was utterly dominant. I can only remember one error.

On form this season, he probably wouldn't make the top 10, though he missed a chunk of the season with injury, and was played despite being injured by Grant.

Shouldn't overlook his saves v Switzerland and - until the error - v Turkey.

The Petr Cech up until Stephen Hunt was heading for Schmeichel like status. Now he'll have a Van Der Saar career. Very good, one of the best of his Generation, but not an all-time World Legend.

Playing behind a defensive team with 2 defensive midfielders, oh what a task. I bet David James wouldn't make many mistakes in those circumstances either.

Hi Kimbo, and welcome to the board.

Cech was without a doubt the best goalkeeper in the world in 2005, both statistically and 'really'

IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper and UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year. He was again UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year in 2007.

If playing in goal for Chelsea is so easy then how come Cudicini and Hilario look so shite?
