Top 4 premium. If you play for a top 4 club, your value immediately gets marked up a few mill, completely unrelated to how you've played for them. See also: Huth, Robert.kas wrote:Sgoater1 wrote:Apparently we might be after Yossi for £6m !

was part of the Bellamy deal, both clubs were sensible with their valuations presumably for percentage reasons. If we'd signed him directly I'm sure he'd have cost more, ditto Bellamy would have commanded a higher fee than the reported £7m if you look at the prices paid for other established EPL strikers that summer.

Still, how the f@ck does his value double in two seasons of average performances???
It's not the Big 4 premium, but the "crazy cash-rich foreign investor desperate to outspend the other crazy cash-rich foreign investors" premium.

well his 'true' value when we signed him was £5-6m
and
average performances in a Liverpool team > average performances in most other teams
Champions League experience
and when Steve Sidwell costs £5m after a years boot cleaning
I'd say £5m is fair for Benyanoon
he has a few years on his contract and we don't want to sell him
but I agree, it's a bit silly
have a great day

Exactly, it's just an arts funding thing. Newcastle and Gateshead were the betting favourites to get it, but Liverpool bribed the judges. 100% true story.

Villa hints at Exit
Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham target David Villa has admitted he would consider leaving Valencia, if the Primera Liga side agreed to sell him.
The Spaniard has become one of the most-wanted strikers in Europe following his goalscoring exploits at Euro 2008 and the Blues, Reds and Spurs have joined Real Madrid and Barcelona in the race to sign him this summer.
And with Valencia rumoured to be keen to raise funds to rebuild their squad following a disappointing 2007/08 campaign, it could be possible that the Mestalla board would be willing to listen to offers.
Villa, who is valued at around £25million, has previously insisted that he does not have a desire to leave Valencia, however he has now suggested he could ponder his options after Euro 2008, if the club wanted to sell.
"In the event that Valencia told me they were going to sell me then I would address my options," Villa said in the Sunday Mirror.
"It's not an issue between the clubs. It's not something I'm thinking about.
"My focus is on this tournament (Euro 2008) and making sure Spain do well. This is not the time to be thinking about my personal future."

Rafa still waiting for verdict on his £50m transfer targets from Liverpool's American owners
Rafa Benitez is ready to press Liverpool's owners for an answer on his transfer budget after lining up over £50million-worth of targets but fearing he will be denied the funds to bring them all to Anfield.
The Liverpool manager wants to pursue his interest in Valencia pair David Villa and David Silva, as well as Aston Villa's England midfielder Gareth Barry, but has yet to receive any signal from co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett that their improving relationship will lead to more cash being made available
Please please please please please please please please please please Please please please please please please please please pleas please
give him the funds
Maybe our transfer budget isn't as paltry as some are suggesting....why would Rafa spend 7 million on a full back and target Barry for 15 million when the creative positions are obviously in need of a major facelift? Rafa isn't stupid, he knows the areas we need to improve and i've no doubt he will do it. I wouldn't read too much into the Milner, Downing links. I'm sure his top targets are two of the following, Villa, Silva, Van Der Vaart, Bentley..or should i say i hope they are?
I'm fairly sure that we will see some satisfying transfer activity this summer, it's just painful that we tie ourselves in knots over pure speculation.
If we can get 2 out of the 3, it will have been a successful summer. Just one top class quality player.
BELIEVE
or.......................
we can still be utterly skintless and we are actually getting Milner, Downing and co.

Liverpool snub £9m Pompey bid for England striker Crouch
Portsmouth have had a £9m bid for Peter Crouch turned down, even though the striker has only a year left on his Liverpool contract.
Pompey boss Harry Redknapp wanted to pay £7m up front with the rest in extras and pair up the 27-year-old with his England colleague Jermain Defoe.
(Same paper so both could be bull)
and this is for definete............
Redknapp raves about Reds' Yossi
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Liverpool playmaker Yossi Benayoun, who is also wanted by Manchester City.
However Redknapp, who made his first signing of the summer by landing Glenn Little from Reading on a free transfer, admits it could be difficult to prise him away from Anfield.
Another Liverpool fringe player, Peter Crouch, has been continually linked with a move to Fratton Park, but he could prove too expensive for Pompey.
Redknapp told The News: "Of course I'd like to have someone like Yossi Benayoun.
"He's a top player. I don't know what the chances are of getting him out of Liverpool.
"It's known I like Crouchie, too. But it doesn't look like anything is happening there. I think Liverpool want a bit too much money for him.
"If that's the case then we'll move on to the next option."
--------------
I'd rather keep Yossi too be honest unless it is ridiculous money.

Finally, we're being linked with some top class players. Silva has to be our priority, he would be perfect on the left of our 4:2:3:1 formation, with Gerrard rampaging down the middle and Babel or Kuyt on the right. I'd be gutted if Xabi left; he's top class, but if we sign Barry and Silva after losing him, along with Dossena who's in the bag already, I can't have too many complaints.
