Skrtel and agger are both immense so I really want to see them playing most of the season
I'd guess
arbeloa....carra....skrtel...aurelio
But if dossena and agger get the chance to bed into the team then it could be different

Arbeloa is could be sold.
Finnan is could be sold.
Degan is Degan.
Carra will start, possibly at RB instead of CB depending on who you talk to.
Skrtel in my should start. He was suberb last season and doesn't deserve to lose his place
Agger is vital to how we play from the back.
Dossena will start at LB, I believe anyway.
Aurelio thus won't.
So to answer your Q Goat, I have f@ck all a clue
If I had to put my money down and guess Rafa(like thats possible) I'd go for...........
Arbeloa - RB
Carra - CB
Skrtel - CB
Dossena - LB
(I changed about 5 times in whether Agger or Skrtel will start.)

Alonso looking better than last season already, I figured the speculation this summer would affect him badly if anything (might think he was unwanted), but he seems really on his game.

Re: Liverpool Football Club 08/09
Positives from tonight:
Improving fitness.
Youngsters got some 1st team experience.
Nemeth, Ngog and Pacheco looked lively.
Keane linked well the team, notably with Gerrard.
In particular...Alonso, Plessis, Darby, Cavaleri and Skrtel looked good as well.
Negatives:
Voronin was shite per usual though he was playing in a position not familar to him.
Kuyt playing on the left, I hope that is not a sign of things to come while Babel is away.
All in all:
It's only a pre-season. All about fitness and giving the youngsters a chance. So we shouldn't read much into except Voronin is muck

cheesecake wrote:I thought Dossena looked pretty good.
Attacking he did. but he leaves a huge gap everytime he bombs forward and doesn't work his ass to get back which is a worry. Its a common thing in his game I have noticed from the little I saw last year of him and so far in the pre season games.
Rafa realised this and hence Kuyt's inclusion onto the left.
I have a bad but small feeling that until the lads get back from the Olympics, Kuyt will support Dossena down the left.

Yeah that's true...He did leave a gap but he looked pacey and good on the ball.
Pennant and Voronin wouldn't make Forest Green's reserve side though...they are appalling.

Re: Liverpool Football Club 08/09
Your left back who was playing in the 2nd half (possibly the first too but I missed the first half) needs to sort his positioning out. He caught out quite a few times.
That bald guy who cracked a volley near the end (Spearman I think?), looked quite energetic, but also very odd.

Spearing.
Yeah he needs a tan or a wig.
Insua played at LB in the 2nd half. Didn't think much of his performance. Similar to Dossena in his style come to think of it.

Pre-season is pre-season, so let's not get the flags out too early. But after last season the only way was up and he must still be buzzing from the Euros.

Re: Liverpool Football Club 08/09
KEANE: SPAIN TRIP HAS HELPED ME SETTLE
Robbie Keane has spoken of his pride at making his Liverpool debut – and admitted the trip to Villarreal has helped him bond with his new teammates.
The 28-year-old played the first half of Wednesday night's goalless draw in Villarreal and in doing so fulfilled a dream he first had while sleeping under LFC bedsheets at his childhood home in Dublin.
While it wasn't quite a case of in at the deep end for the new boy, his debut came just 48 hours after his move from White Hart Lane was completed.
Not that Keane is complaining. In fact, the striker believes having to repack his bags for Spain so soon aided his settling in process.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "The lads have been great. Everyone has welcomed me with open arms, so it's been great so far. It's always nice to get away like this and you really start to get to know the lads when you start to play games and get in the dressing room.
"Having this game after two days has helped me settle in quicker.
"It felt good. I'd only played two 45 minutes for Spurs against lesser teams, so it was nice to get 45 minutes under my belt against a quality side. It's always important to get amongst things straight away. I enjoyed it.
"I have dreamt about that moment since I was a kid, so it was special. I enjoyed every minute of it. It felt like I thought it would, though obviously it's different with it being away from home.
"It will be extra, extra special when it is at Anfield but it was nice to pull the shirt on for the first time today.
"It has all sunk in now – it has to, you know. You can't dwell on it too much - you have to get amongst things straight away. You've got to go out there and do what you do best, which is play football."

Re: Liverpool Football Club 08/09
KUYT: WE'VE SIGNED ONE OF THE BEST
Dirk Kuyt believes Liverpool have signed one of the Premier League's most gifted players in Robbie Keane.
Despite the additional competition for places up front, Kuyt admits the former Tottenham man was exactly the kind of addition required to help fire a renewed title challenge.
"Of course, I welcome the signing," the Dutchman told Liverpoolfc.tv following our goalless draw with Villarreal. "We just needed a few small details, a few new players in order to make a big difference to our season.
"Hopefully Robbie can do very well for us. He has shown, particularly last year but also the years before that, that he is a quality player. He is one of the better players in the Premier League, and that's what we need.
"Hopefully he can do for us what he did for Spurs."
Kuyt was one of 23 visiting players involved as the Reds were held by last season's La Liga runners-up on Wednesday night.
Despite the need for rotation in what were searing conditions, the Dutch forward suggests fitness levels among the squad are starting to reach optimum level ahead of the new campaign.
He said: "Villarreal was a tough opponent, the atmosphere was good and it was a nice pitch, so we enjoyed the night. I think 0-0 was a fair result.
"I can feel the fitness levels rising. I feel it myself and I've only been back two weeks. The other lads have been back even longer and you can see that they are growing every day.
"You always have to work really hard in pre-season. Now we've got a few big games coming up with Rangers on Saturday, then we go to Norway before finishing pre-season against Lazio at home.
"We have two weeks and I am sure we will be ready for the new season."
