All of Spain and most of Latin America will be glued to their TV's FFS! What I like/dislike about this Spanish team is that Aragones has united them finally. Them Spanish FINALLY became ONE UNIT, no more different factions of madridistas, catalanes, valencianos, andaluces, vascos...I don't see that at all. It's just one team pulling together.

It took a colchonero to unite a Spanish team. You know anyone else would've called Raul to play for Spain again just to f@ck everything up in the team. <Ale>

Actually it´s three times advantage Germany, three times advantage Spain, three times a draw and one time undecided, because it´s not clear whether Ballack or Borowski will play tonight.

The article ends with the conclusion that Spain are the most constant side at this tournament having the better individual players and that Germany would have to equalize that with more running and fighting.

Ballack will surely play...missing training since Friday might just be a precaution. It's not like a couple of missed training sessions will make him unfit is it? I don't actually know what the problem is, but I'm sure it won't be bad enough to rule him out of the final (I hope).

It's a calf injury, the same injury which forced him to rest in the first group match against Coasta Rica in 2006.

I guess you would be tbh...obviously it's the chance of your team losing your best player. The thing is, it's the final, and maybe he's missed training so he doesn't aggrevate it?

Definitely, the docs 'worked' on his injury instead, used electro shocks and what not.

Time will tell. If we want to win, we need a fully fit Ballack at the top of his game. I hope that the motivation to play in the final (would be his first final for Germany btw.) will make him forget the pain (if it's still hurting) and give his best.

Like Deano said, maybe he just rested to make sure the injury doesn't actually become an injury (if you know what I mean). In fact, perhaps the 2 days of rest will refresh him compared to the other players on the pitch?

This repeated "he won't be fully fit" smacks a bit of getting the excuses in early, blut.

kas, no excuses. Doesn't matter if Ballack is fully fit or not, Spain are the favourite, as I said before the injury was known already (go back a few pages).

The thing is...I don't see why Germany are getting blamed for mind games. Ok, it's possible...but probably more a case of the press have got hold of the fact Ballack has a knock and then the rest is obvious...

I expect him to play anyway...I think it'd have to be pretty bad so that Ballack himself would say he is too injured to play.

The thing is, we need a Ballack in top form tonight. If he plays like he did against Turkey, he'd be useless anyway. That's why I'm pessimistic, because he is one of those players who cover most ground, that's his style, hence he needs to be fully fit.

Mind games or not, if he plays Cr@p tonight, we will lose. Simple as that.

Post by Machiavel Sun Jun 29, 2008 5:10 pm

Lothar Matthaus says: The heart says Germany, but the head is saying Spain.

"I thought Spain played incredible well against Russia. I just don't think you can play any better then did in the second-half. It was one-touch football full of great ball control and elegance - but they were also very solid defensively. When you can keep players like Cesc Fabregas out your starting eleven then you know that you must be loaded with quality players.

"For the final you have to make the Spanish team favourites. No other team has shown their level of consistency throughout the whole tournament.

"Spain has more individual quality in their line-up than Germany has. It is imperative that Germany tries to limit space in the centre of midfield because that is where most of Spain's creativity comes from.

"The one advantage that Germany do have is that they are always so strong when the pressure is on. Their team spirit and passion could help compensate for their lack of strength in other areas."
