Wágner Ribeiro, the man who initially brought Robinho to Real Madrid from Santos and subsequently orchestrated his move to Manchester City, has been relieved of his duties as the player’s agent.

According to Spanish daily Marca, Robinho himself has made the announcement that he has decided to part company with his agent, Ribeiro after a six year working relationship.

An official statement that was issued read:

“I am grateful for everything Wágner Ribeiro has done for my career up until now, but our working cycle has come to an end. It is time for us to go our own separate ways and I have new goals to achieve with my new club, Manchester City.”

The pair began working together in 2002 when the player was still a teenager at Santos. Ribeiro negotiated his stormy move to Real Madrid in 2005 but it was nothing compared to the pandemonium that was just a month ago when the 23 year old adamantly demanded to leave the Santiago Bernabéu for Chelsea, but landed at cashed-up Manchester City instead.

Several pundits have accused Ribeiro of ill-advising his client throughout the entire ordeal but it is unknown whether or not that was the main reason he was given the axe.

Robinho’s father will now take charge of the player’s off the pitch, business affairs.

    Manchester City bought
Robinho with an up-front payment of £32.5m to Real Madrid, with a
further £4.2m being paid to his agents, it has been revealed.

In a frantic attempt to finalise the deal before the transfer
window slammed shut, the club's new Abu Dhabi owners, paid Madrid the
full amount in a one-off installment. Typically, the fees of such
expensive transfers are paid in three or four installments over a
period of up to four years. According to The Independent, 'To ensure
that the deadline day deal went through in time it is also understood
that a payment of £4.2m was made to Robinho's agents, led by his fellow
    Brazilian, Wagner Ribeiro.'
'If Robinho had not signed for City he would have joined Chelsea
on 31 August, having already agreed terms at Stamford Bridge and with
Real Madrid resigned to losing him. The Chelsea chief executive, Peter
Kenyon, believed he had secured the transfer in the week before the
window closed for £25m and, although the club's owner Roman Abramovich
later went on to sanction of fee of £29.2m being paid, he was adamant
he would not go above that price which equates to €35m,' the newspaper
    reports.
'Nevertheless, it meant that the highest offer from Chelsea fell
£3m below Real Madrid's asking price, although the Spanish club would
have reluctantly let Robinho go given the gulf that had developed
between them and the player over the summer. "If they [Abu Dhabi] had
not come on the scene, then Robinho would have gone to Chelsea," said a
source. "But they did and Chelsea decided not to pay. It was totally
    Roman Abramovich's decision."'

City’s assistant manager Mark Bowen says that the search to bring more top-quality players to the Club is already well underway.
The recent takeover of City and the arrival of Robinho just before the close of the summer transfer window have heightened speculation over who Mark Hughes and his management team might bring in next, but Bowen says that feet will remain firmly on the ground and that thorough profiles of many players are currently being worked on.

He says, “We have people out there looking at names already, we will be travelling Europe over the next few months. We also have the chance, because we know what the budget is, to target players at the very top so if you think you can get them maybe they will come.

“You can also do a lot of background work, a lot of our scouts might almost be like private detectives to see if a target might settle in with us. Are they likely to embrace what we do, not just on the pitch but on the training ground as well?

“The gaffer puts a lot of emphasis on training, and if you are asking players to perform at the highest level of intensity then bringing people in who just want to stand around at training counting the hours to Saturday might upset the balance as well. That homework has to be done.”

The former Norwich City, Spurs and west Ham defender, who has worked alongside Mark Hughes at international domestic level, is also keen to emphasise that City’s approach is not just to bring bodies on board for the sake of it, and that shaping a team is key to looking at potential targets.

“Possibly the hardest job will be careful selection of the players we bring in, but also moulding them into a team,” he continues. “We have to make sure that we have a team.

“You can’t just point at the best players in the world, it does not work that way. You have to man-manage them and motivate them, you have to carefully select who you bring in and who they will work around.

“But look at someone like Stephen Ireland, is there genuinely a better player than him in his position in this country at the moment? You cannot just look at names on paper just because they play for big teams overseas and think that they will do better jobs than people like Stephen.

“You might have the ability to bring in a few more world stars, but then find someone like Robinho could be disenfranchised, so it’s a careful selection, but we will embrace it. We had success at Blackburn by bringing in the right type of players, albeit on a different budget, so it is important we get that situation right, and we are confident that we will do.”
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Great article, Im very confident that Hughes and Bowen are the right people in charge to take us to the top.

So Thaksin's been sentenced to 2 yrs jail for corruption in Thailand. You guys must be ever more thankful for the takeover.

What are his remaining links with Man City? Is he still a significant shareholder, or have Abu Dhabi bought him out completely?

    Petrov sidelined until February

Manchester City winger Martin Petrov is set to be out of action until February because of a knee ligament problem.

City boss Mark Hughes said: "It not his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) this time, he's got a tear in his meniscus that will need to be repaired.

"Although it's good news about the ACL it's still a bad injury and he will be out for three or four months."

Petrov, 29, was injured playing for Bulgaria against Georgia and had only just returned after a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Hughes received a boost on Tuesday following the news that Micah Richards' ankle injury is not as bad as first feared.

The right-back strained ligaments rather than suffering a break.

Yeah gutted to see he is out till feb but i dont think we will sign any more left wingers cos we have Robinho and Ireland and Elano can play there if we need, as can Ceicedo and Castillo (remember him...on loan till Jan)

In Jan we will sign a striker and a left back, and then maybe a centre mid and maybe a centre back depending on who is available.

Its tough because we are still in the UEFA Cup and teams wont want to sell their best players in January. For left back id like Lahm but we will strugle to get him, in that case id say Bridge would be a great buy.

Upfront if he would come id go for Eto'o or Huntelaar....its hard to think off the top of my head but we need a proper number 9 upfront, a clinical finisher and possibly someone with pace (although we already have a lot of pace in the side).

Moutinho alongside Kompany might be good, or we might go for a more defensive mid like Veloso cos we have a lot of attacking players like Ireland, SWP and Robinho all in the same team. De Rossi wold be perfect......but there is no chance of getting him.

Im not going to say Kaka, Messi, Gerrard or players like that cos its simply not going to happen. We have to look at signing quality players who might want a new challenge (or lots of money ), like Moutinho or Huntelaar if you know what i mean. I say Eto'o cos he was considering a move to Uzbekistan or wherever in the summer and might be tempted to come to the EPL, if he is playing every week then we have no chance of getting him. Benzema is another who would be perfect...but also very very hard to sign.

There are players that would be good and we have more money than anyone BUT until we get in the champs it will be hard to sign some players, especially in January when clubs dont want to sell. In the summer it would be easier and i can see us raising a few eyebrows...time will tell but its going to be exciting and over the next 18 months i expect us to sign some great players and have a team that can compete for the top 4.

Robinho urges Kaka to join him at Manchester City - Exclusive
    By Simon Mullock, sundaymirror.co.uk 16/11/2008
Robinho has urged Kaka to join him at Manchester City - insisting that the Blues can become the biggest club in the world.
Manager Mark Hughes may want a reality check on the expectations of the City fans following the shock summer takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group.
But £32.5m British record signing Robinho says that he joined the Blues from Real Madrid because he bought into the Arabian dream of City becoming the No 1 club in football.
Now Robinho wants Kaka to join the Brazilian revolution at City after vowing to have the last laugh on those critics who claim he's only here for the money.
"Kaka is fantastic and has so much ability. He is a great player and a great person," said Robinho.

"He is strong, intelligent and fast. Obviously I hope I can play with him here.
If Kaka or any other great player wants to come here, the door is open.
"It's great when we have players like that mentioned with the club. Obviously we love it, and the ambition of the owners.
"All the players are hoping to make this club the best in the world. I came to Manchester City because I see them growing and getting bigger. Can they be as big as Real Madrid? Yes, I hope so.
"I am enjoying it and my aim is to become the best player in the world."

just imagine a front 4 of Robinho, Kaka, Eto'o and Vassell Crazy

Much better than a front 3 of Gerrard, Torres and Voronin (or Keane as he looks to be his direct replacement).

Btw - very interesting game on weekend: MCity vs Arsenal (minus Febregas). Must win game for Hughes, but they will play the style that can suit Arsenal well.

Ego'o will not move to City because his Ego wouldn't permit, and he would be completely pawned by Utd defenders like last season CL Semi.
Kaka will not move to City because of his loyalty to Milan, and he is grateful to the club.
