Brasil, Argentina, and España mopped the floor with Italia, France, and England respectively. And it could be argued that they hardly broke a sweat.
I expected España to dispose of England effortlessly with a lot of OLE OLE OLE for good measure. A bit surprised at the way Brasil ran roughshod over Italia. And Argentina owning France was amazing in Marseille no less!
Three early super candidates to win the World Cup in 2010. Brasil-Argentina would be the Dream Final.

Argentina were defending for the vast majority, and banked on counter-attacks. Nevertheless that Jonas goal was very important Until that point, France were all over Argentina...

Only after they scored. They were running circles around France before that. Then they decided to tune-up their protect-the lead-defense and hit'em with counters. Argentina disected France like a surgeon.

Excellent game I thought, particularly the first half where France were excellent. I love watching Ribery, fantastic player. Also thought Gourcuff had a good game. Anelka was poor IMO.
Argentina played very well in the second half, and Gago was particularly impressive. Still not convinced by Aguero-Messi though in a 4-4-2. Though they both did well when they had the ball today, I'd prefer to see; Aguero-Higuain--Messi
Superb goal from Messi.
Nice to see Jonas get a goal too. Like him as a player and he provides something different to most of the squad.

nothing like a victory over the WC runner up to let loose the hype machine...honestly who doesn't like to jump inot the bandwagon??haha
but seriously, we had as much good moments in the game as bad ones...only the victory makes us all suffer from amnesia concerning the bad times...then again football is very much striking in the right moments

Re: FRANCE - Summer 2012 thread
Looks like Domenech is hellbent on getting a proper educatiuon at every opportunity While there is no shame in losing to Argentina, Domenech has been underperforming since the WC... How does this guy not get sacked??
Domenech: France Received An Education
Despite losing 2-0 to Argentina at the Stade Vélodrome this evening, Raymond Domenech has explained that the fixture was a useful learning experience against accomplished opposition. Prior to kick-off, head coach of France, Raymond Domenech, had said that les Bleus would treat the fixture as they would a competitive encounter. The capacity crowd was not be let down as Argentina responded, contributing to a highly intense fixture, which the Albiceleste would win 2-0 thanks to goals from Jonas Gutierrez and Lionel Messi.
Even in defeat, Domenech has treated the encounter as a largely positive affair, stating that his players would have taken a great deal from the match. “We learned tonight,” he declared to television station TF1 in the immediate aftermath of the game. “The players have learned a lot. It was a good team against a great team. We showed that we too have quality. We must now confirm that in the [World Cup] qualifiers because the opposition we faced this evening was strong.”
Question marks will still be raised about the defense. After keeping a clean sheet against Uruguay in November, the French rearguard once again looked suspect. Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda had an unconvincing match while both goals came down the flank of right-back Bacary Sagna. Even the central defensive pairing of William Gallas and Philippe Mexes did not look entirely convincing.
Domenech has just over a month to iron these problems out or hope his players were schooled sufficiently this evening to eradicate their errors.

I sincerely thought Cristal had Estudiantes eliminated. It was disappointing to see Oblitas go there for a draw. That's what he gets for being so conservative, out on away goals.
When he returned with the team to Lima, only then he realized his team should've eliminated Estudiantes. Too little too late.
You guys looked awesome against France. Maradona and Bilardo may win the World Cup again.

What team would you like to see Argentina play, and has there been any murmurings in Agrentina as to why Higuain isn't getting a look in? He has only played one 'A international' game where he scored two goals, but otherwise is yet to make the senior squad. He has had a very good season this year much like D Milito, Lavezzi, Cavenaghi etc but Denis for some reason is picked.
Thought Gallas and Mexes (particularly the latter) played well enough today. Aguero caused some problems and Gallas got mugged by Messi for the goal but they done decent against a dangerous attack. Abidal was fine, Sagna did struggle though.

Good first half, dire second half.
Henry was shit, Sagna was shit, Toulalan was shit. Has anyone ever regressed so much as Toulalan? He used to be a world beater, now he's just shit.
Overall apraisal: Shit
Verdict: Sack the c**t Domenech

haha I know it's crazy, Denis is so shit is unbelievable...
anyway...keeper it's far from certain...I used to like Carrizo very much, cause he is a risk taker and good with his feet, but he's been doing pretty badly at Lazio
defense...Demichelis, Samuel, Gonzalo(if he can stay fit), Monzon, Milito, Mareque, maybe Zabaleta
midfield Gago and Masche are definitely in, as well as Maxi if he picks up his form
forwards Messi, Kun/tevez, D. Milito and pipita
my argentina today(considering actual form)
------------------------------Carrizo(today was OK)-----------------
Pupi-----Demichelis----Samuel-----Monzon/Papa
-Gago----------------Mascherano--------------Jonas
---Messi------------Higuaín-------------Kun/Tevez(for the last 25 mins)
alternative XI
------------------------------Carrizo(today was OK)-----------------
Zabaleta/mareque-----Demichelis----Milito-----Monzon/Papa
---------Maxi----------------Mascherano--------------Gago----------
-------------------------------Messi----------------------
-----------L.Lopez----------------------Kun/Tevez(for the last 25 mins)
probably has a lot of flaws but one can't help puting on the players one likes...plus I'm fortunately not the coach

Who is Pupi?
I wouldn't argue with either of those XI's. I'd certainly like to see Higuain get a start ALONGSIDE Messi and Kun. I probably would take Romero over Carrizo however.
Mashcerano and Messi are probably the only nailed on starters and can be sure of their places regardless really. Demichelis has been impressive for the national side of late, and is definitely worth a place.
I really don't like Heinze but manager after manager seem to disagree so meh.
Garay is someone I'd like to see in the squad because he is a pacey CB, but isn't ready to be a starter yet.

Cosmico, why is Cambiasso not rated in Argentina?? Is it coz Masch+Cuchu does not work??
I am so surprised that Denis makes the team... what do you think about Lavezzi and Zarate? I guess being support strikers does not really help their cause, with Messi/Tevez ahead of them in the pecking order....

Re: FRANCE - Summer 2012 thread
so sorry, the nickname we use down here...Pupi=Zanetti...
I was going to mention Romero, but I still have Carrizo's good impression from his River days...
agree on the heinze bit...it's strange, he is a rustic defender at best but he seems to seduce coach after coach(wether it is for our national team or Man Utd or RM)...it's strange...maybe he has some kind of positive influence on the group of players outside the field, and maybe that's why he's got so much credit??
really I don't know...one thing is for certain...if he is terrible at CB he is even worse as a FB...so if they are going to play him then we should thank they do it as a CB and not a FB
Garay is a good shout...I haven't seen him lately....but I don't imagine he's dropped his form...many of the players I've mentioned aren't ready to be starters yet, but hey that's what these friendlies are for!

Gallas didn't get mugged for the goal. That's just outrageous given that he was among the players in Argentina's box for a corner. It was a fast counterattack because Diarra lost the ball, and Messi had the pace to wrong foot Sagna, to get past him and score the goal. Gallas was France's MOTM and like the case in past few months, far more comfortable thanMexes. He covered Mexes' ass when Aguero or Messi got past him, and quite clearly blocked or dispossesed. He could have avoided the sliding challenge on Messi for which he got Yellow. Sagna had a poor game, while Mandanda was clearly shit. Why don't we try Lloris?! Sébastien Frey should have been the obvious choice. F-U Domenech!!!

Benzema doesn't perform for the NT. Anelka is just shit. We need to instill confidence in Karim.
I'm calling out for Nasri who has not been given a chance.
After L.Diarra's performance, I'm confident Alou would be an improvement if the idiot still wants to play 2 DMs.
Overall, Domenech has been making terrible decisions, and couldn't get the team to play consistently (like the first half). If we get a new manager, we will go places.

Frey is a legend, so far this season he is outperforming Buffon and Cesar in Serie A... Domenech needs to watch the highlights of Fiorentina's game last weekend, Frey made like a dozen good saves to keep fiorentina in the game.
I may be mistaken, but I think both Frey and Trezeguat have retired from international football in frustation of not being called up by Domenech. France need to get rid of Domenech very quickly.

Madanda keeps making mistakes in the goals and this kunt of Domenech still puts him no 1.
Fk Domenech, an experienced goalkeeper is very very important. You just don't put a 22 years guy with a few champions league games under his belt. Frey is a great goalkeeper and he should be number 1 and there shouldn't even be a debate about that.
Yes both have retired... well they haven't really but they don't want to play for France with Domenech. I'm pretty sure if Domenech gets the sack they would be happy to come back and play for France.

How did Gago play? Im particular interested in his passing because that is one point where he hasn't been as great as I think he could be. So far when I have seen Argentina he has been passing better for them and played more as the Nr.5 he is.

he and masch played well in the argentina midfield, he was all over the place, put in a real good shift for argentina, his passing wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either.
Diarra should take a page out of his and masch book a learn that you don't need to kick someone every 5 seconds to stop them.
