To be honest I don't think there's a need for Higuain because there are several good players: Anelka, Gignac, Benzema and Henry.

Concerning Domenech the FFF (Fuckng French Federation) got it wrong and everyone knew it was a mistake. Blanc or Deschamps would have been much better.

The problem with R.Domenech is that he didn't select some players because they play in a league (a bit similar to Maradona who doesn't select players from his rival club), Mexes, Frey, and Trezeguet.

When you see that Mandanda and Lloris are too young, Escude not good enough, you do have some regrets not trying more with the likes of Mexes or Frey.

Having said that I knew the national team would suffer after the world cup because most of the great players from 1998 retired. But there are still some good players (Gourcuff, Benzema, Ribery, Lass, Sagna, Evra, Gallas, Clichy, Abidal, Malouda, etc) and they 've been playing crap for a while now.

Domenech keeps putting 2 defensive midfield players and this hasn't work at all. Despite that, he keeps putting the same formation again and again. This is ridiculous.

Now we have to win our next 4 games, which is going to be very difficult, Romania at home and Serbia away with a full capacity stadium (60 000). I can't see that happened. Domenech puts all the pressure on his players, like we have to win over there, we can do it, etc, etc. In fact going to the final of the world cup was a bad thing in the long term.

    Probably starting teams (L'Equipe) :

FRANCE : Lloris - Sagna, Gallas, Abidal ou Escudé - Evra - L. Diarra, Toulalan - Anelka ou Gignac, Gourcuff, Henry - Benzema ou Gignac.

ROUMANIE : Corman - Sapunaru, Radoi, Chivu, Rat - Ghioane, Codrea - Marca, Aposol - Surdu, Marica.

Gignac on the right instead of Anelka could be great.

    No Ribery?

Gourcuff and Ribery are probably France's two most talented players. But they don't really work in the side's current 4-4-2 formation. They'd be best employed in 4-2-3-1 which would also sort the two DM system.

Of course, playing this formation would mean playing 1 of Henry/Anelka/Benzema/Gignac and who would play on the right of midfield?

You'd think getting this group of French players to an Intl. tourney would be a cakewalk. 3rd time that Domenech has made a pigs ear of it.

France have hardly played 4-4-2 under Domenech. Their current formation(which they have been using for sometime now) is 4-2-3-1 with Toulalan-Diarra holding and Gourcuff infront of them - that midfield 3 almost always play. The forwards(two wide players + striker) change from time to time though. Govou played on the right in some games(and was good), Ribery played there too and has also played on the left. Henry has played both on the left and upfront on his own. Anelka on the right and upfront. Luyindula featured on the right too. Same applies to Malouda on the left. So those forward positions change quite a lot, but those 2 holding midfielders + Gourcuff is constant.

Gallas is the main man at the back but he hasn't got a regular partner since Thuram retired. Mexes, Squillaci, Excude have all partnered him since. Dunno who might get the nod to start tonight. Sagna looks to have nailed down the RB position(with Fanni as back up), but the left back position is still up for grabs, same for the goalkeeper position.

I'd say the only players who are sure to start at this moment(things might change in the future) when fit are: Gallas, Sagna, Diarra, Toulalan, Gourcuff, Ribery, Henry. Nasri, if healthy and played centrally, will make life difficult for Gourcuff for that position between the DMs and the striker by the end of the season.

Ben Arfa has been shit recently so it's not a surprise, and Nasri for Domenech is a second choice, hence he's not often called. Luyindula that's nonsense. Saha or even Cisse are better than him.

Yep Domenech never tried to play Nasri, Ribery and Gourcuff at the same time. That could work although they play a bit the same. The link between midfield players and strikers is the weekest link IMO. This explains France for their last 5-6 games only scored one goal per game. Domenech keeps using the same formation no matter if it works or not. Maybe putting Toulalan on the bench and allowing another midfield player to help for offensive work could help the team score more goals, but niet it's always the same song.

Well that's always been the debate. What's the point of playing two holding midfielders against teams who show no ambition.

In some home games last season we played Nasri CM to combat teams who parked the bus. You can never hav too much creativity.

FRANCE : Lloris - Sagna, Gallas, Escudé, Evra - Toulalan, L. Diarra - Anelka, Gourcuff, Henry (cap.) - Gignac. Rempl. : Mandanda (g.), Abidal, Ribéry, Benzema, Rémy, Squillaci, A. Diarra.
