I just hope the security measures in Stuttgart will be better this year for the derby, I'm not in the mood for any more shenanigans and fireworks. Erm
However, I won't be surprised should there be any incidents. The safety measures at normal games are a joke, so why should it be any better then...

Podolski gets his chance up front for Bayern today.

    München: 1 Rensing - 3 Lucio, 6 Demichelis, 5 van Buyten - 30 Lell, 17 van Bommel, 21 Lahm - 15 Ze Roberto, 31 Schweinsteiger - 9 Toni, 11 Podolski.

    Bremen: 1 Wiese - 15 Prödl, 29 Mertesacker, 4 Naldo, 2 Boenisch - 6 Baumann - 7 Vranjes, 11 Özil - 10 Diego - 9 Rosenberg, 24 Pizarro.

    __________

Bremen close to an early opening goal. Rensing flapped at a Diego set piece, but it evaded everyone at the far post.

What do people think of Bayern's 3-5-2 formation? Do people think they will find success with it, or do you think they would be better served by a 4-4-2 throughout the season?

Pizarro hits the post with a great effort. He was being isolated, but a good change of direction took him away from the defender, and from a tight angle he lifted the ball over Rensing but it came back off the near post.

    Ribery Pushes Back Comeback

The France international tore ligaments in his ankle during this summer's European Championship clash with Italy and has not featured in a competitive game since. He had been penciled in to return against Werder Bremen on Saturday, but his name has since been erased from the tentative squad sheet.

“Franck isn’t injured. His muscles have gone tight, which is only to be expected after the work he’s put in over the last week,” explained Bayern boss Jürgen Klinsmann. “He really gave it everything yesterday because he was looking forward to the match so much."

Klinsmann went on to say that Ribery would technically be considered fit enough to play, but that they are not willing to take the risk.

“(Chief medic) Müller-Wohlfahrt said it basically wouldn’t be a problem for Franck to play tomorrow, but there’s always a minor element of risk. A couple of days more or less don’t matter now,“ Klinsmann said on Friday, suggesting that Ribery would now return during the German Cup clash with 1. FC Nürnberg on Wednesday.

Also questionable for Bayern is Miroslav Klose. The German international suffered a knee injury in midweek, and his fitness will be determined just before the match. If Klose does not start, it will be a great opportunity for Lukas Podolski to prove his worth.

“Miro came away from Bucharest with a really nasty dead leg,” the coach reported after the midweek Champions League trip. “It was a lot better for him today than yesterday. We’ll wait and see if it makes sense for him to play tomorrow.”

Bayern's formation is certainly interesting. Does today mark its birth, or have they tried it before this season?

My internet has been playing up all week - my internet provider is altering the service it provides, and so this week it has been providing little service to no service at all - and I think because of this, I can't get any stream to work. So how are they playing, Sheffield? Eurosport suggests that they're playing very much a 3-5-2, but I imagine that they're playing the three centre backs fairly narrow with Lahm and Lell acting as wing-backs? To me, it would make more sense to stick with a 4-4-2 diamond sort of formation; to play Demichelis in the holding role with Schweinsteiger ahead of him; to drop van Bommel and to play Borowski and Ze Roberto in the wider positions.

They've tried it a few times from what I've seen and read. I think they were looking vulnerable at the back with two centre-backs earlier in the season, but it seems to be something Klinsmann is keen on trying. I'm not sure how well it will work once all the midfield options are available (especially fitting in the attacking midfielders). They might be better off sticking with a 4-4-2 then. I don't think the wing backs have done much today, although Lahm nearly forced an own-goal when crossing from the line.

It's quite an even game, but I think Bremen are looking slightly the more threatening side. It was a well taken goal. Only two centre-backs holding position, and Rosenberg found space between them. Ozil slid a ball in to him and he steered it low past the advancing Rensing. Bremen aren't defending as badly as they usually do, and they're looked good breaking forward.

    0-2!!!

Naldo scores from close range after poor goalkeeping from Rensing. Good ball played into the box, and Rensing reacted late. It wasn't entirely his fault because he thought a Bremen player might get a touch on the ball, but he still should have done better than palm the ball stay to the feet of Naldo.

Klinsmann should have changed more players between Wednesday and today. And possibly the formation. 3-5-2 is too exhausting to play three times in seven days with basically the same players. Poor decision.

That wasn't Rensing's fault, it was the defense's. Three players were standing next to each other about 5 yards away from where the ball came down.

Not our day. Toni wasted a number of good opportunities, too.

Yes, I've seen Bayern a couple of times this season with Van Buyten and Lucio in the centre of defence, and with van Bommel ahead of them in the holding role, and it hasn't looked too solid. The two centre backs stepped out of position and were caught out too often, and van Bommel isn't particularly mobile - he doesn't do a good covering or shielding job.

Is Demichelis playing as a sort of sweeper today, or is it more a flat three?

It's true we've looked much better with Ottl instead of van Bommel. Actually, both our (comfortable) league wins came without van Bommel. Let's hope we can fight our way back into this one. I'm not very optimistic though. The players just look a step too slow today.

IMO, Klinsmann should rotate more. He should've played Kroos, Ottl and maybe Sosa. I'm also worried about our striker situation. Klose is out injured and Podolski just got a knock on his foot. What are we supposed to do if one of them goes out long term? Have the same two strikers play three games a week? Hope we make it til January?
