Germany vs England, missing out XI Empty Germany vs England, missing out XI

Post by Glenarch of the Glen Mon Nov 17, 2008 2:59 pm

as the world waits with baited breath for the latest instalment of England vs the nasty Germans, it cannot go unnoticed that several high profile world stars will be notable by their absence.

Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Joe Cole and Michael Ballack will all be missing on Wednesday, so why not pick an England XI and a nasty German XI from the players NOT involved in this weeks game, tell me who would win and what would be the score.

Players selected must still be professional footballers, although you may select players who have retired from international football, ie Scholes, Carragher, Lehmann etc.

    GO!

I won´t watch this shite. Hopefully this will be the last friendly against England for a long time. Playing the second string of a second tier nation is a disgrace. Couldn´t care less about the result.

Agreed. Loew should set up friendlies against better teams. Like games against Italy or Brazil because those are the teams you have to beat to win the World Cup.

Playing some decent African or South-American team would make sense, too.
I feel sorry for those, who have bought tickets for loads of money to watch this so called "event".
Uwe Seeler will be there to tell everone the ´66 stories, we have heard 1000 times before. I´m afraid, this will be the most exciting part of wednesday evening.

There aresome weird friendlies this week. Nigeria is going to play Colombia in Bogota and Egypt are playing Benin, while Ghana are playing Tunisia. Can understand Africans playing each other to some extent, but would be better for them to play other federations in Africa so both can learn something.

@ Germans: Have you heard anything about Mohamed Zidan being dropped by Shehata for feigning injury a while back and never being called up since - interesting because he was accused of doing this in 2006 and I met Shehata in Ghana and he said Zidan missed ACN in 2006 due to big injury, but others said Zidan didn't want to play.

I don´t understand why we never play against some of the rising African teams. Nigeria,Ghana or Egypt for example. The last time we met an African team was in September 2005 against South Africa.

Dortmund.

According to this article, he has asked Shehata not to call him up for the match against Congo, because he wanted to focus on Borussia Dortmund.

I read about that. He was still in Hamburg back then.

There were those rumours in the local media about a feigned injury, but I don't think it was sorted out completely. He did say he was injured (he went to the national team, but returned again without having played) - and apparently the African media stated that he had feigning that injury and the national coach didn't want to call him up for the upcoming games. I didn't know he was never called up since.

    So.....might be true, but.....not sure.

You want to tell me, you really care about the result? The only interesting point of this match is how the younger players and newbys will do.
Marin for example. Or Compper Weis and Schäfer.
Or this young lad from Chelsea, Mancienne.

Okay that clears it up. The match against Congo was pretty important to Egypt and Shehata basically want players who are committed to the cause, so he would react badly to it. Zidan was dropped by Shehata during qualification matches at least to the bench, so it is possible Zidan doesn't think he is part of Shehata's plans as well, but he should patch it up quickly, or he could miss out on the historic World Cup assuming Egypt qualify.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if Bayern were playing games with the DfB a bit, but I just had a quick look and saw that he didn't play the whole game like I thought he had (and incidentally, what awful substitutions from Klinsmann when he should have been closing out the match).
