Confederations Cup 2009 Empty Confederations Cup 2009

Post by fcb Sun Nov 23, 2008 12:41 pm

Didn't see any mention of it on the board...

    The draw was held yesterday.

    Group A:
    Italy (WC)
    Brazil (South America)
    USA (North America)
    Egypt (Africa)

    Yikes

    Group B:
    Spain (Europe)
    New Zealand (Oceania)
    Iraq (Asia)
    South Africa (Hosts)

    lol!

    Unbelievably lopsided draw!!!

Australia play in Asia! It's now New Zealand with a couple of the pacific nations battling it out for the Oceania spot.

New Zealand have since improved alot anyway...if Australia were back in the Oceania cup, they would still have a tough test to overcome New Zealand. They are capable of finishing 2nd in their group.

    Nelsen, Mulligan, Smeltz, Killen. ok.

That draw is a joke, the 3 diddy teams are in the same group. Did they not have any seedings?

Why would there be seedings? Each of the teams there, are there on merit from winning their Confederation Championship.

Even if you did seed it, it'd probably be WC, Euro and SAmerica champs which got seeded + hosts....so it could've come out exactly the same.

It is a bit silly that NZ have now basically got a permanent bye into this tournament - letting Australia leave the Oceania confederation has made it rather pointless.

there was a kind of seeding. italy, brazil, spain and hosts (s africa) should be 2 in each group. brazil and italy fell together in one, s africa and spain in the other.

it will be a good test for brazil before the wc.

There's talk of Italy sending their Under-21s, to give them some experience.
