Bonus 20 goals from set pieces guaranteed with him. I look back at almost any big game, and he was involved in the big incidents. the f.a cup semi arsenal he scored the 1st. the cl final both his corners. juventus his corner keane header etc etc.
when he left man utd fell apart untill now imo.
Even his last game he scored the winner i think.

neville duno who voted for him but that is crazy.
giggs scholes beckham all very good no reason to pick one over the other unless you have an obsession with one.

1999/2000 he was absolutely unstoppable. He whipped in amazing cross after amazing cross I have never seen anything like it. I agree with you that people seem to forget just how good he was because of his later form (he is an absolute shadow of the player right now). Giggs overall for me though.

Scholes' tackling is not underated, he is a poor tackler technically, he just gives it everything and it sometimes works. He has missed a lot of games due to accumulated yellows for his tackling.

People forever describe him as a poor tackler - Id say he is average but not poor. Therefore Id say its underrated although clearly its a subject concept.

    Which pundits?

Yeah sorry, I forgot my pen and paper at the time...

You are clutching at straws here.

haha - I really couldn't care less. I just wanted to ascertain that it was a throwaway comment. Its a given that pundits would have said it but if they said it then, they should still say it now - Scholes still looks the same player to me only a little slower.

Your references are as wishy washy as their opinions probably were/are and you citing them underlines the fact that Scholes is considered World Class ( whatever that means) almost by convention.

As I said before - I appreciate that im in the minority re Scholes.

Listening to some pundit talk about Scholes is not going to change my opinion of a player I ve watched for roughly 12 years

    Beckham's crossing was indeed superb.

I rememebr being amazed by his ability esp in the Champions League semi final against Dortmund in 97 I think. He used to let the ball run right to the corner flag and still somehow mangage to wrap his foot around the ball before bending & dipping it back it back in.

    David Platt better than Scholes?

It isn't even worth having this conversation...

Are you referring to my comments relating to the game two seasons ago against Milan? Watch it and try to say otherwise.

& what are your comments on the games against Milan? I can't find them in this thread.

The first game at home, he was after Cafu and Ferdinand the best player on the park. Something backed up/recognised by many newspapers and even Milan fans I spoke to on 606.

That game was much closer than people make out and we had some great chances (Fortune and Scholes himself especially), where as Milan basically took the only one they had after Carroll made a huge error.

The second leg he wasn't at his best, mainly as we had to go for the win away in the San Siro and so went with 4-4-2. Scholes and Keane were up against the likes of Pirlo, Seedorf, Gattuso and even Kaka and Rui Costa dropping deep. They were over run and Ronaldo and Rooney were no help either (both played awfully). Milan fully deserved to win that leg but Scholes wasn;t at fault at all.
