Agree with what Sheffield Gunner is saying, something I've said myself when asked about our CL chances - this year the team is indeed completely different to last season: mentally, physically, and personnel-wise (Alves in for Zambrotta and anybody-who-cares in for Deco, improves the team by a huge amount). But the "kryptonite" will still be Man. Utd., Liverpool, Inter, or Juve if we come up against any of them in the CL knockout stages.
I'm a little less worried about Chelsea because I think they've shown some mental frailties this season, we can outplay them, and our defenders also won't have a fit/motivated Drogba to deal with unless he performs a big turnaround and Scolari changes his mind too.
But the other 4 mentioned above will be glad to spend 180 mins parking the bus and nullifying our football, then looking to grab a goal on a counter or setpiece...defending a constant stream of crosses/long balls remains the main weakness of our defense, and for Alves offers going forward, if Ronaldo/Evra are regularly released down the left flank by early balls from their teammates/keeper, Alves *will* get exposed.
