    Post by 72-76-80-96-08 Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:48 pm

we all know about your 1990 or 1996 heartbreak vs the Vaterland

    1998 vs the Argies

2004 vs France (Becks) and later Portugal (Becks and Co)

and who could forget Flumps and Gerrard vs Portugal in 2006 ?

the CL Final that Chelsea lost, and that forced Ballack to faint, will always be remembered for Terry wanting to be a leader

    and now

ManU vs Spurs in the League Cup

    PENALTIES

    the foreigners score

    the Englanders do NOT

and Bernd's heart is broken yet again

    http://www.welt.de/sport/fussball/article3307456/Englaender-sollten-keine-Elfmeter-mehr-schiessen.html

I think it was a Scandinavian scientist who analysed penalties and found out that English players were simply too nervous

    or terrified

apparently, the successful penalty takers TAKE THEIR TIME

    they LOOK at the goalie

they wait for the right moment

ENGLISH players tended to just take the ball, put it on the spot, turn around, and immediately hit the ball, without even looking up and placing it

they want to GET IT OVER WITH

with the kind of results that amuse the rest of the world

why Mourinho allowed Terry to take the penalty

why Redknapp did not insist on foreign players taking over

    we will never know

what we DO know though, is that as long as England do not sort out their weakness from the spot kick, they will NEVER win the EUropean or World Cup

    wahre Geschichte

Hargreaes learnt to convert them in Munich, van der Vaart in Hamburg

maybe "a few years in the BUndesliga" should become compulsory for ENglish lions

    here are some memories

I don't remember Mourinho ever letting Terry take a penalty, but it goes with otto's agenda so we'll let him have this one.

I'm also slightly intrigued as to why your username is based on the years that Germany & Spain won the European Championships, but never mind. Ale

Otto - you do have a point.

Although to be fair, this time around the reason we LOST to Manchester United was because of their ENGLISH goalkeeper (who pulled off some great saves during the game, and kept out O' Hara's penalty)

But in this case, where you as a German are mocking the English for penalty thier taking, it's definitely one where I'll concede that - bar one or two anomalies such as Matt Le Tissier or Alan Shearer - the English are generally p*ss poor. In a similar way that the English can mock modern German music for being equally p*ss poor, so poor infact that the German Football Team actually adopted "Three Lions" as it's own because there was no one in Germany who could write anything decent enough for them. Which, when you think about it, is as laughable as any missed English penalty Ale

    bernd , my fine Hugarian

    you are VERY cheeky here

I just offered your English Lions to LEARN THE ART OF PENALTY TAKING IN GERMANY so that they could compete at an international event

that is the equivalent of Ronald Reagan offering UNILATERAL NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT DURING THE COLD WAR

and yet, your reply is to INSULT PISS POOR GERMAN MUSIC

    Yikes

that's not how a true Hungarian gentleman is supposed to behave

    -------------------

    still

as always, even your dig at our football anthems is not justified

we got our very own GERMAN anthem in 2006

    "Dieser Weg"

and it's a mighty good one

in fact, it's quickest way of triggering memories of the Sommeralbtraum

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x8ZtWqUFuA

when we failed EPICALLY at the 2006 World CUp in the Semis

Naidoo composed this little piece, that sounds horrible, but is HILARIOUS because the text about the players and the WC is just very contrived

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_OBUP6tlDg&feature=related

here is another German football anthem, which I HATE because it sounds like typical cheap Anglo pop

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCG7DRNM8zw

    Yikes

    ---------------

as for current German pop that everybody seems to download

check out Peter Fox, who is actually rather good

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdtLCfEcPL4

    Germany cheers

Good thread (despite the obvious silly remark about Mourinho; obviously it was Grant's fault, who should have sent Kalou up).

I feel dirty saying this but kudos to United Yikes for doing their homework and demonstrating again the utterly pathetic and moronic English canard that penalties are a "lottery" (which, after it's just been proved for the umpteenth time that they're anything but, loads of commentators have persisted in repeating Doh

Bernd, you know nothing about German (pop) music, so you might want to keep your powder dry – but as an Englishman I guess your lack of knowledge is no reason not to express an opinion ok

I disagree, the topic at hand has become a bit of a cliche, thus being harder to add any comedic input into an already flogged horse. So in that sense I thought it to be a difficult premise.

Dare I say it, the chin jokes are wearing a bit thin now. A year ago I would have had milk coming out of my nose at the sight of Fey's "Yes we Chin!" poster, now I'm lucky to get out a smirk. What needs to happen is Di Canio post a picture of himself and discover his hairline starts just above his eyes. ok Or Riviera to look more hideous than we all imagine her to be.

There was thread last year where the bullying got really intense, and Rosicky changed his name to something obscure. We all assumed he had left permanently but a little later he logged back in with the 'Rosicky' Username and denied ever changing it.
