If the former - what have I always said about this man ?

I thought you like Tymoschuk Pierre? I think I remember you saying that he was/is better than Claude Makelele?

    affraid

No, I said he goes to ground more often in one game than Makelele has done in his entire career.

He didn't foul for the pen though - he was booked for protest.

Di Natale is awesome - a great improviser and always a joy to watch <Ale>

Haha! I thought you actually liked him! I made him better in FM cause I thought you rated him! Same with Wason Renteria. Bumped him up a little too cause of your recommendation.

Agree about Di Natale. Udinese have some really talented players these days.

    Well done Man City. Ale

Going off the results i think Ajax have a decent chance of getting through as do Braga and it would be one of those two id like in the quarters if we can get there.

I really think we could have a chance of going all the way in this competition, we have some quality players and seem to be hitting form at the right time.

We played and beat Schalke away, plus Aalborg arnt mugs they drew vs U*d away, at Celtic away and did well against Villarreal. Anway we can only beat who is in front of us and with so many decent sides like Milan and Valencia going out we have a real chance of making the final.

Long way to go but we have a realistic chance cheers

You can lose? I'm putting you down because you shouldn't be in the competition in the first place, and to add to the insult you've had an easy draw. I think it would be a farce if City won the competition. I don't think you will, but it remains a possibility.

I'll keep him in but won't make him captain...normally I would sell him, but since he's classified as a midfielder it's pretty good value.

Thanx. I'll keep him in my team, not sure about my captain. Somehow I think Robinho has a decent chance of scoring, becuase AAB will have to attack. Expect goals from both clubs & City progressing. My other option is Zenit's Danny, who plays at home v a parked bus aka Udinese.

Think the same clubs will progress kas, apart from Braga; fancy PSG's chances, they just need to score & Braga will have to beat them. Expect HSV to score v Galatasaray as well, but think Galatasaray will win.

The thing with P.S.G is that each time they played in the U.E.F.A Le Guen changes half of his team, because they are doing well in the ligue. Thus, all the best players either don't play or are on the bench. Hoarau, Makelele and Guily are often on the bench...
So it's a bit of a gamble for them.

What's up with Ajax' defense? I read some stuff about Van Basten complaining that they were lots of defenders missing. How critical is it?

One of their main players Vermaelen is out, and also their new RB Van Der Wiel. Plus Gabri, who can also play in defense, is suspended. So they are a bit short on numbers. I think Marseille can go through, since they are also usually better away from home with the pace of Niang up front.

Their first choice is suspect as it is, now they'll have to plug in some kiddies fresh from the cradle Ale

The entire first choice : Thomas Vermaelen,Gregory van der Wiel, Jan Vertonghen & Robbie Wielaert won't be playing Shocked

They'll also be missing their A-choice midfield defenders : Gabri & Lindgren....

    Ajax squad :

    Doel: Stekelenburg, Vermeer

    Verdediging: Alderweireld, Oleguer, Schilder, Silva

Middenveld: Aissati, Anita, Blind, Emanuelson, Enoh, De Jong, Sarpong

Aanval: Bodul, Cvitanich, Leonardo, Suárez, Sulejmani

Alderweireld is playing his third or fourth match for Ajax 1 or so ?

Bruno Silva (the arch-traitor) wasn't considered good enough and wasn't even allowed to train with the first team a while ago.

    Oleguer should be shot.

Schilder is a journeyman midfielder not good enough to be anywhere near the Ajax squad IMO.

Aissati & Enoh have been injured for a long time, just been declared fit yesterday....

    Blind is 15 or so.

Anita and Sarpong have been playing on and off this season : very young and not of Ajax standard.

Ajax's attack is okay though, even though Van Bastard is clueless as to how to properly use Sulejmani.

In conclusion : walkover for Marseille Ale

    Ajax sqaud for the match:

    Maarten Stekelenburg
    Bruno Silva
    Oleguer
    Urby Emanuelson
    Miralem Sulejmani
    Ismaïl Aissati
    Kenneth Vermeer
    Luis Suarez
    Dario Cvitanich
    Eyong Enoh
    Siem de Jong
    Leonardo
    Jeffrey Sarpong
    Vurnon Anita
    Robbert Schilder
    Toby Alderweireld
    Daley Blind
    Darko Bodul

No defence whatsoever, if Olympique are smart they put some pressure on that defence & get at least 1 away goal too.

Ajax are going to do some ridiculous prematch hype the crowd up, so the atmosphere will be probably be good. The ref is German, so Ajax probably will get no additional homeadvantage. Expect goals from both clubs. Unless Olympique have a player sent off, they should be able to get the result Gerets deperately wants: beating the guys he hates.

Allez Olympique, je suis droit au but aussi

Thanx for the info on PSG. Noted that they sub a lot. Think I'd 3 or 4 of their players in my FF team this season, only 1 played. Still they impressed last away match v Wolfsburg & it's not like PSG's bench is crap.

I rate Braga, but a home tie after a 0-0 away can be tricky. You just can't concede, so have to attack with the brakes on. Being caught in 2 minds can backfire.

I really don't Ajax-Marseille is going to be a walkover for Marseille.
    They just are too inconsistent.
Each time they won an important game either in the C.L or ligue 1, they never confirmed. Zenden played his best game in two years for Marseille against P.S.G and he's likely to be on the bench against Ajax. Still some sparkles in him...

According to Dutch state tv the police have confiscated 10s of weapons (a.o. knifes, knuckledusters, gas spray cans) during check ups of OM fan busses/fans (a few arrests have been made). The A'dam police said they expect(ed) problems because of riots last week in Marseille. On some Ajax fan sites there have been calls for revenge. A'dam has been declared a risk area (thought it always was), so everybody can be searched...

the entire Randstad is a permanent risk area Wink

    Its the truth though!!

Anyway, Ajax will go through, last week I was impressed by Valbuena! But the rest of the Marseille team looked pretty average to me. Especially when they had a man more on the pitch! They blew it last week!!

Only one goal will get the bastards thru. And they will score at home!

Of course for those we aren't used to it. By the way make sure you watch your drink, otherwise someone might drop some GHB in it... Groningen scares the shit out of me.

    @fey
You don't expect them to keep a clean sheet, do you? OM will score for sure, even Volendam can v that defence.

Think this is the 1st time in my life I want Gerets to win. He's like Van Bommel's older nephew. What a c**t!

That Underworld guy is pretty good I must say. I just have this annoying feeling that they are gonna make it! Even if Marseille scores! They will outscore them!

Groningen is worse then the Randstad though! I agree with that!

Didn't know about them in either, but I hardly read/listen to Ajax news. So it might have been in the media here.

    @fey
Pity that underworld guy is Ok wondered what he was like. Always have a bad feeling of there matches & I'm sure their pre matchbirthday shit will suck big time, so as usual I'll keep an eye on the score & will watch when/if things are going OM's way.

    Allez Olympique!

I too, if you knock them out that is...if you lose to them you have to take a pic of yourself in a U*D shirt.
