You know what I meant. Razz

Normally the strongest penalty takers are 1st & 5th. Terry could've easily swapped places with Lampard or Ballack, and been a middle order penalty taker. Instead he wanted the headlines, the flashing lights, the immortal images.

Berbs was the one that would've put them ahead..that was the decisive moment really. 1-0 = a lot less pressure for the defender coming up to take the next pen.

Exactly. A lot of times with penalties people can feel they are gonna lose or win or it's their day. And i don't think some of Everton's pens would have been as good as they were had Man Utd took a lead. Hell Rio might have even been more relaxed himself.

    I disagree.

I would think..with the chance to go 1-0 the pressure is on..Berbs fucked up.

Rio then had all the pressure on as they were now 1-0 down and he had to get back into the game.

The subsequent takers have a bit less pressure then as the game is more or less out of their hands now.

When Everton took the lead on penalties they got more confident. Hence Rio's penalty miss was the decisive one.

I think we can all at least agree on that. Defending in Serie A has become a joke in recent times. Its like the EPL in the mid 90s

People will naturally blame Berbatov because his penalty looked very lazy and he's also quite unpopular amongst many fans (especially United ones) for his lack of work rate.

I dont agree with the people that say its lazy or that he's lazy in general/ It was just far too casual given the situation. Im sure he cares, but his style, or his nature, is obviously to try and do everything laid back, but he fucked this up big style. If he was trying to wait for the keeper to move and then pick the other direction it couldnt have gone worse..I agree with what TS said about it being a fine margin between "shittest penalty ever" and "oh god how cool was he there" but I would've thought at 0-0 in a semi final shoot out, with the chance to take the lead..you would go with the percentages and blast it.

I think people will naturally blame the striker who cost £30m came on for half an hour after the rest of the side had battled and fluffed his lines by not striking the ball properly from 12 yards.

Say what you like about Rio but he hit it hard, went for a corner and the keeper saved it. Berbatov was very much ill advised in his choice.

Rio's wasn't a bad penally, it was just a good save. Berbatov is clearly the more obvious scapegoat, but you can't blame Bozo for trying, he is making himself look a bit of an idiot but what's new? Shame on Cooper for humouring him.

Like i said earlier - too close to the keeper, and a decent height for the keeper - poor penalty.

Rio's was a bad penalty, it was right where a keeper would be in a position to save it if he guessed the right way. Anderson's was a better example.

Berbatov was just a bad decision, whether he can take a good penalty I don't know but it wasn't poor technique like Rio's.

It was a fairly poor technique though. If you going to stroll up to the ball casually, the idea surely is to see which way the keeper is going to go and then hit it the other way? Seemed like Berbatov saw him move slightly to one side and then hit it that direction anyway.
