Yeah, it was necessary because otherwise the only two that did any defending were Hierro and Helguera.

No doubt. Both teams were imperious domestically. Further proof now though that the CL isn't always won by the best team.

Last season CL was one of the few when it won by the best team. Manchester United

Allthough I never saw any of the games live I would have to say this one because I have seen several highlights of the games this year.

Thought this was a good at least for Real with meetings against Lazio which was great games and I was actually hoping Lazio won the games since they were going to go out. Leeds was also a very interesting team and if I remember correct one of the team that gave us a lot of trouble. Football also just seemed to be easily enjoyable

02/03
Great season for me personally but very much the football aswell. As I remember it some good matches in group stage aswell. Newcastle making a great comeback after losing 3 games. Real-Milan was an interesting match up. Juventus deserved more allthough like Jaime I think it could have ended quite different were it not for injuries. However it was one of the few times I cheered against Real Madrid because I felt that despite the football which was out of this world it would be boring and bad for the the cup for the same team to win it twice. Game against Man Utd in the first leg stands out for me as our best played game ever at top level. Second leg was never exciting in terms of who was going through.
A good Ajax side that deserved a lot but for a good last goal by Inazghi/JDT meant there was no repeat of 95.
Boring final in the end but a great year and while Milan deserved it more in the final I felt it could have been different if Nedved didn't get that damn suspension. Bad luck for Lippi again.

Don't think the football was as interesting after these season allthough this year it has been in terms of entertainment but still the fact that England has 3 teams in the semis takes much of the glamour of it. The removal of the 2nd group stage made the cup more surprising and opened it up for more "cup tactics" and teams being scared to play at home.

Can't really remember some of them but obviously 2005 was special for me.

I'll always remember Zidane's goal in the final against Leverkusen though, what a moment.

They seemed quite good Man utds way to the final, Inter-Real , Dynamo Kievs games all seemed of quite high quality. It was either that year or the following with Valencia providing entertainment taking Barca and Lazio to the cleaners. Seemed liked some very good games perhaps even better then other years but the fact we have yet another year where 3 teams from the same nation dominate the semis even if they were quite attacking teams.

I didn't really football that much except for a little of the world cup of 98. Loved playing but just didn't enjoy watching it that much but heard much as I remember that year from my friends. I only really started to get interested when I caught Real Madrid-Valencia final and the following Euro2000 which was superb football but with a tragic end for me as you know.

Also if those that did follow back I remember hearing about a Rivaldo goal which took a crazy curl. I might have confused Rivaldos name with Carlos which would make more sense but can anybody remember Rivaldo making such a goal?

95-96: Cant remember a lot of it, but that final..I was in Tunesia..and god what did I enjoy the jews losing that final, my hate for them was at its highest. The tears from those grown ups...I can still taste them!!

96/97 was my first cl season i followed intense, and then dortmund as winner, really stunning ( i remember the final, i didnt watched it live, i watched with a friend videos, and i was really surpriesd that dortmund won the game, because for me juve was favourite)

of course bayern humiliated whole europe, omg i miss those mental strength and characters in the current side

loved leverkusen to watch, played the best football in europe, humiliated pool, manu and deserved to win the final

01-02-The Zidane final/2nd group stages what went on forever with Europe's best players(Zidane,Figo,Henry,Ballack) at the time playing 100 games leading up to WC2002.
