Bayern are close to signing Rafinha, former Schalke, now Genua RB. This means that Lahm will move to the left side.

Excellent... we did have our eyes on Gokhan Inler of Udinese, which would undoubtedly have been a very suitable replacement, but keeping Vidal is much better.

Schalke seem to be concentrating on Spanish players these days. Would be an excellent transfer for them.

Now Everton are interested in Klose, too. So far, Juve, Valencia and Tottenham had shown interest.

He'd do great for Tottenham and probably Valencia, too. NT Klose that is, of course, not the Bayern version...

Many people abroad (that includes you Bernd) seem to believe that he is a poacher. But you couldn't be more far from the truth. It's actually his allround game that makes him so valuable to the national team, for example. That's the reason why he's still a guranteed starter and not the league's top scorer Gomez (although the latter has improved quite a bit in this regard this season). Klose's movement off the ball, his passing and one-twos, the hard work and pressing are what set him apart. He always gets invloved in the passing game and often plays like a midfielder-forward hybrid.

He wouldn't make it in The EPL - under 6ft and not pacey won't do for a CF over here.

He may be under 6ft (although I think he's exactly 6ft (1,82m), but he still is one of the best forwards in the air. Height isn't everything, Klose can outjump any defender really.

According to his agent, Bayern are interested in Kun Agüero.

Can't really see this happening. What would Bayern need him for? Unless it's about signing a player the board simply rates highly. If that's the case, Bayern are willing to shell out huge sums of cash no matter if they really need a player or not. But that would only prove Kahn right, who criticised the lack of strategy in the transfer policy of the club.

What Bayern need foremost are defenders and a world class goal keeper. Up front, they already are one of Europe's very best teams.

Would love to see him at Goodison Park, but I don't think Everton is ready to pay the same salary some other teams can, especially Juve, who are rumoured to offer 20m pounds per season for Tevez!

With Raul, Huntelaar, Jurado and Farfan I don't think he would find as much playing time he deserves. He would be much better joining Villarreal, especially if they would lost Borja Valero.

I don't think Schalke will get Canales anyway. But remember that Rangnick is a very attacking minded coach, and Schalke will play in Europe next season, so there will be a lot of rotation. Canales would get plenty of playing time.

Schalke will have Holtby back though. They have quite a few talented young players, if Rangnick manages to form a team out of them, losing Neuer will probably not affect them that much.

Arnesen connection. I think he was the one who brought him to Stamford Bridge (don't think he is a youth Chelsea product). He is pretty decent and versatile, can play CB, DM and even RB.

I remember him from the U21 Euros 2 years ago. Looked like a solid defender, don't know how / if he has developed since then.

He is a product of the Chelsea youth though according to Wikipedia:

Bayern will pay €5.3m for Rafinha according to BILD:

    http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/rafinha/alles-klar-mit-bayern-18135968.bild.html

Apparently, Bayern wanted to sing him in 2009 already, but Van Gaal vetoed the transfer because he didn't want to have two small fullbacks (Lahm is 1,70m, Rafinha 1,72m).

Good price for Rafinha. This will have consequences to both Bayern and the national team - Lahm will move to the left side.

Alongside Perisic, Dortmund have signed Ilkay Gündogan (Nürnberg) cheers and Chris Löwe (LB back-up from Chemnitz); Julian Koch and Moritz Leitner will return from loan spells.

No further signings are planned according to Watzke.

Gündogan is potentially an excellent replacement for Sahin. Really looking forward to see how he will do in the coming years. Thing is, we don't have that many class alternatives to Schweinsteiger for the 'playmaker' / more attacking minded central midfield position in the national team, Kroos is the first choice so far, so it's always good to have more options.

They are, born and raised here (and learned to play football here, of course), but they decided to play for the country of their parents. So I'd actually agree that they shouldn't be counted as such, since this is football we are talking about here.

I have always been consistent on the question of nationality

    no u-turns at all

ANYBODY born in Germany is GERMAN, IMHO: eg Sahin, Alintop

ANYBODY who moved to Germany at a fairly young age, grew up here , went to school here and decided to accept German citizenship, is GERMAN (eg Poldi)

if you move to Germany at a later stage (let's say, LATE teens or later) BUT integrate well, learn to speak the language well and IDENTIFY with Germany, followed by getting a German passport: you ARE GERMAN (eg Asamoah, Cacau)

the ONLY questions where I may have changed my mind slightly is with regards to nationality and football

ie, initially, I was AGAINST Cacau playing for Germany despite the lad being a German passport holder, simply because he IS a BRAZILIAN footballer

considering his SENSATIONALLY successful integration into German society and the way he now identifies with the Vaterland and is even PROUD to sing our anthem, I no longer have a problem with it

I also slightly changed my attitude with regards to the , what we call, German-Turks, who are born and raised in the Vaterland, but somehow INSIST on being Turkish

    ie: Sahin and Alintop

    they REALLY ARE German footballers

they also REALLY ARE GERMANS in a more general way (and admit that they kind of feel out of place in Turkey/the Turkish national team): hence the comments above about Germans at REal

BUT, IF they go on and on INSISTING that they ARE TURKISH , it's difficult to insist otherwise ourselves

these clowns believe in the power of BLOOD/ ethnicity so much, that Sahin claims even Khedira (born in Germany , mother is GERMAN as well) was Tunisian

the truth is RACISTS like Sahin can go to HELL

the sad truth is also that these are GERMAN racists though

the first generation of Turkish-German neo-Nazis

It's perfectly alright for those players with Turkish blood to go play for Turkey... why can't ethnicity contribute to a player's sense of belonging to a certain country? A strong feeling of blood and a duty to one's forefathers is honourable, I think, and should do a lot more when players are considering which nationality to play for...

It is to be fair to you Otto, a delicate issue. But I can't help you placing the blame at the feet of the "racist" Sahin and Altintop is missing the point somewhat.

Integration of Turks in Gerany, or North African's in France is clearly a problem, and it is regrettable that after living in Germany for all their life, they still do not feel German. (side dig - looks like the France and Germany have something to learn from the UK in this regard). But it seems pointless to me to blame the individual. They are nothing more than the product of their upbringing.
Blame can be laid at either the Turkish immigrants, or German society, and its this divide that will have sculpted Sahin into feeling how he feels.

It's seems like Hoffenheim's Andreas Beck is close to move to Juventus:

    http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/553301/artikel_tanner-in-sachen-beck-mit-turin-noch-nicht-durch.html

Would be a good move for him I think. If he manages to take the next step and continue to improve his defensive game in particular, he may become first choice RB for the national team again, now that it's clear that Lahm will move to the left side. A pity that Juve don't play in Europe though, would have done him good.

According to (reliable) Kicker, the transfer of Manuel Neuer from Schalke to Bayern is finished and will be officially anounced tomorrow:

    http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/553354/artikel_manuel-neuer_haengepartie-beendet.html

Schalke have signed Eintracht Frankfurt keeper (and former Schalke player) Ralf Fährmann as his replacement (free transfer).

Despite having just one year left on his contract, Neuer will cost €18m, plus €3m in bonuses guaranteed and an additional €4m in bonuses depending on Bayern's success - a minimum of €21m, and a (rather likely, knowing Bayern) maximum of €25m.
