can't say yet : till september 1st anything can still dramatically change....

Although it would seem that in Holland AZ have sold the title to Ajax for a mere 6M euros.

Why is everyone predicting Chelsea to win everything? They're no better than the last couple of years, and have another new manager to get used to.

    I'll say:

    Juventus
    Liverpool
    Barcelona
    Bayern
    Bordeaux

If Ancelloti plays 4-1-2-1-2 all season there is no way Chelsea will win the EPL.

My favourites are Liverpool, unless Utd sign a top class winger/forward type player.

Its not just the coach, ManUtd ve lost their best player. I think Chelsea ve the edge now, if Ancellotti can stay for the entire season. He is an accomplished coach, and now has a complete squad with him. Liverpool could win it too if they start the season well. Ditto ManUtd. But IMO Chelsea will be the team to beat.

Problems for Chelsea I see are:

*maybe taking a while to adapt to whatever changes Ancellotti makes. Could mean they drop points early on.
*probably losing several key players in Jan/Feb for African Cup of Nations (don't really have replacements for Essien & Mikel)
*squad looks a bit old, overall. This is sometimes good - I'd probably put them more likely to win CL than PL due to this experience - but may make a difference in latter stages of season in the league when facing glut of fixtures, against younger, fresher sides

Tweeds, don't tell me your buying this "Lamps isn't as good when he isn't playing off Drogba" crap spouted by the Sky pundits?

Given the players they've got it's their best formation: Room for the Cole and Bosingwa to bomb forward, Essien and Lampard playing in their correct positions - Malouda also played CM at Lyon so it shouldn't be a problem in that formation - and the goalscoring threat of Anelka and Drogba.

If Lampard isn't playing well he could drop back into Malouda's position and you could play Ballack/Deco at the top.

Would you be happy with that? I think I'd rather see Barça win the league...it would be some achievement to beat out a squad worth 400 million and full of superstars.

Not that I want Madrid to win the CL...but in that tournament a team that works well, esp. in defense, is more important. And there are many other teams that can knock them out.

No. I don't even have Sky sports!

It won't work because it lacks width and the formation may struggle to score against teams parking the bus - the same way that Scolari's team struggled.

Same thing happened with Milan in Serie A. They dropped tonnes of points against opposition that they should have beaten because they lacked the neccessary penetration in the final third.

I don't think that was Milan's problem... their main problem was a leaky aging defence, and superstars who didn't seem motivated against less glamourous sides. Penetration was not a problem (Pato, Pirlo, Kaka, Dinho, Seedorf) but the lack of a quality target man who would convert the chances probably was.... Thats why Inzaghi was so successful for them whenever fit.

Perhaps, but then Ancelotti is not the same as Scolari. Different coach, different approach... its too early to tell how his tactics will change, maybe Deco starts playing a pirlo-isque role soon.
