    Steven Ireland Empty Steven Ireland

Post by Calidad Thu Aug 20, 2009 8:38 am

What do people make of him?

Fast becoming one of the Prem's best CM's IMO. This is a lad that was almost shipped out by City, but in the space of a year, there has been a complete turnaround, and despite City's 'galactico' signings, he's still the one that impresses most.

Flash in the pan, or someone that will only get better?

Could even become better than Lampard. More athletic and creative. Obviously still has a way to go yet though.

Better than Lampard at the same age, there's a big reason City haven't spunked 20 million on a player in his position.

Credit where it's due - Parky called this one a very long time ago.

Definitely an excellent player who could potentially become World Class.

Have to question his intelligence though after Grandma gate. Certainly on a par with Rooney in terms of IQ

Parky has always liked him so hats off to him.

TBH he has always shown the potential but was inconsitent (very frustrating to watch) and his head didnt seem right. Apparently he said he sort of snapped when he was traveling home from the Boro game after we got beat 8-1, he was so fucked off and realised there were players there that just didnt seem to care about the club. He said that he decided he want one of them and that he was going to work his arse off that summer which he did.

He hired a personal trainer, doing weights, martial arts etc and got himself amazingly fit. He had a brilliant season last year, and after another summer of working hard he is looking in great shape now.

He seems to have got his head together now and is a future legend. He works amazingly hard, he is box to box, can tackle, pass and shoot, there isnt much he cant do tbh. Plus he loves the club and the fans (great interivew with him on our website about this).....bit of a dream player really. How good can he become, who knows as he constantly works to improve and has come on amazingly, time will tell uess but he could become to us what Gerrard is to Liverpool.

He'll never be a great CM for a non-possession team. He's just too weak. If ManC want to play with two CMs and its going to be Barry and Ireland they are going to get dominated by any team who are good are keeping possession.

He should play as the AM in a 433 or one the the wide AMs in a 442 ala Rosicky. Unless ManC suddenly become a balanced, patient possession keeping team.

And, he's much more talented than Lampard.

He doesnt seem that weak..you'd think if he's doing as much of a fitness regime as is talked about then he'd be fairly tough. Goater says he's doing some sort of martial arts..

He doesn't need to be weak just not be very strong/athletic. In a non-possession team he'll be running more than anything. Running and battling with the opposition AMs and then making fairly simple passes to the forward players. If he tries to do anything more than that, the midfield is going to get owned by even upper midtable teams.
