Marquez, in my humblest of opinions, is the best there is.
Phenomenal at this WC, and has been for Barca for the last couple of seasons. Is able to play as a midfielder too, such is his ability.

See this is what I don't understand. Quite a few people have said (somewhen in the past - but not so long ago) "Barcelona defence is a real weakness", yet according to this thread, they have 4 World Class defenders (something I personally think no team in the world has).

the defense was the weakness because
1) our FBs were Crap and attacking
2) The CB plays on the half way line.
those two thing enable teams to hit us on the counter-attack down the flanks and Puyol and Marquez while prevent a crazy amount of those chances from becoming goals, a few had to score. so people were mistaken when they said our defense was our weakness. when in truth when we sit back a bit deeper (like we did against chelsea last season) our defense is as good as any.
now he has to World class defenders before this season Marquez and Puyol add to the our new signings Thuram and Zambo and in case you can't ccount the Equals 4

Marquez and Zambrotta = World class for sure
Puyol I'm not so keen on. Excellent defender, but I think that if he played for any other team in Europe, he wouldn't get anywhere near the same praise he gets playing for you guys.

What I was saying is, your defence has come under a lot of stick from people (because of the way teams who could play quick, counter attacking football, were able to cut you open with relative ease most often), yet if you have 4 world class defenders, surely that makes you the best defensive side in the world? (if that's what you're implying?)
Imo, neither us nor AC Milan have 4 world class defenders (Especially now Gallas has gone, we have Terry and Boulahrouz who are WC imo, and Ashley Cole could be world class for us, but unproven in the Chelsea team yet, Bridge very underrated but not world class. Carvalho too hot and cold, Ferreira too shit... Milan have Nesta), yet we're the 2 team who are often considered 'the best defensively in Europe'
