I'm just acknowledging that we don't deserve to be in this list.

Not as high as 9 in any case, we would be among the lowest.

You forgot Spain...I think they do have more than a slight chance of winning, now that they've broken through the mental glass ceiling by winning Euro 2008.

As for England, I wouldn't have them so high if it wasn't for Capello. I don't like the football his teams play, but somehow he gets them to win matches.

we shall know WHETHER Spain have broken through ANY MENTAL glass ceiling

    AFTER the World Cup

they entered the last European Cup as the permanent ALSO RANS

with ZERO PRESSURE on their shoulders , because everybody knew they would always choke

entering this World Cup as (joint-) favourites is 100% different

    no more element of surprise

    HUGE pressure and expectation ...

already at the Confed Cup they CHOKED BIG TIME

and all the old demons will have been awoken, about choking when it counts

    kas

you are making the mistake that virtually EVERYBODY on here makes

and has been making ever since I joined this board

you make country credit ratings based on false assumptions and HOPE (or fear)

    not on credit worthy-ness

you are the Moody's of the EMB

No...just find Holland a strange choice. They are not exactly known for winning these kind of things....it's one of the worst dutch teams in awhile and it's not in europe.

They probably won't win it, France Italy and Argentina look guff, and Holland looked better than us in a friendly a while back. This is all i have to go on.

@LRD we'll have nearly the same team as the Euro 2008 team. A team capable of beating France & Italy, but this time we have a better manager. Don't think our chances are much better or worse than any of the top nations.

This thread is flawed, if you want to rank the 32 best teams from that list, you get a different list then if you want to make a list of potential winners.

Germany is not a good team, yet they would score higher on my potential winners list. Same goes for Italy. I rate Spain higher then Brazil when it comes to quality of the players but Brazil would top my nr 1 position for potential winner.

Holland lost quality with RVN and VDS btw.

    I rather do categories:

1-3 The Favourites: Brazil, Spain, Argentina
4-10 The Contenders: Germany, Italy, England, Holland, Ivory Coast, Portugal, France
11-19 The Dark Horses: Serbia, Cameroon, Ghana, Mexico, Chile, Nigeria, Slovakia, USA, Uruguay
20-28 The Outsiders: Denmark, Australia, South Africa, Paraguay, Greece, Slovenia, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan
29-32 The Minnows: Honduras, Algeria, North Korea, New Zealand

I think people on this MB really under rate Serbia & Slovakia, they could spring some major shocks.

    @bluenine
rated Serbia as high as you did. Don't rate Slovakia as high as you did, have them 1 group lower. Basically we've about the same ratings, only have 1 level less.

Think you underestimate Algeria. Think tactically they're the best African team. They will not be a pushover for anybody.

Spain had won the Euros before. I don't think it means much though. Teams like Greece and Denmark have won the Euros. Spain couldn't even create any good chances against an Italy defence with Panucci at CB.

Capello can win matches against shit teams. Not sure about teams that are at a similar level to his.

But Germany has won against Russia twice, who are a better team than England. And these were official matches.

About Löw: I don´t like his scarf, too, but at least he´s German.

Özil is a great talent. He was probably the best player of the last U21 tournament and tormented your U21 side in the final. That was not the biggest achievement though, as England played like England: black, fast and zero skill (Walcott)

About England at next years WC: I respect them as a team. They will be hard to beat. But I dont see them in the semis. Basically they will have the same team as in the years before. There is no new player, who can take them to another level.
