Post by Pierre Littbarski Fri Mar 12, 2010 11:15 pm

...got underway tonight - CSKA beat Amkar Perm 1-0 with Honda scoring in the 90th min.

I think Lokomotiv might win it .

They've only won it twice - in 2002 and 2004 when Yuri Semin was manager.

They were 4th last season but if you did a league table from when Semin took over they were probably 1st.

His last full season was with Dynamo Kiev and they won the league.

Why not CSKA or Rubin...the former have added Honda who was great in the Dutch league (ok, not 100% reliable way to judge a player) and looked very good in the CL game against Sevilla. Plus they still have Krasic and Dzagoev. And Rubin have held on to everyone except Chori Dominguez.

Rubin v Lokomotiv is 0-0 after 53 mins.

    Rubin Kazan 2 - 0 Lokomotiv Moscow
    Andrey Gorbanets - 87'
    Aleksandr Bukharov - 90'

So close but so far from a great result !

At least they have one of the toughest fixtures out of the way.

Bukharov has looked very impressive whenever I've seen him and will put real pressure on Pav and Pog for National Team place.

    Very good lone striker.

    A bit crude.

Slow but strong and two footed with a decent strike.

Certainly true – two-footed and an excellent shot. For some reason I always preferred him to Pav, looked almost unplayable at times in the UEFA Cup-winning season but hasn't really kicked on...

Pog, Pav, Bukharov, Arshavin are all more 2 footed than the average bear.

Makes you wonder if they place a lot of emphasis on that in their youth sides.

I prefer Pav to Pog for the same reason I prefer Iaquinta to Amauri.

Think its to do with indoor football - you need to get out of tight spaces so being two footed helps ?

The weather would suggest indoor football (therefore on a small pitch too).

The only one who looks one footed is Zhirkov who happens to be great with the outside of the boot - replacing his right foot.

Even big ugly CB's from Russia/Lithuania who play for CSKA are very tidy on the ball.

I remember an interview Ronaldo made with danish tv 4-5 years ago and he was trying to explain why Brazilians were so good technically. He pointed at Futsal where they play with a heavier ball then normal indoors football which he believed help their technique and shot.

Does Russia have tradition for playing a lot of indoors football?

I think when you consider the tradition of Valery Lobanovsky and universality in Russia perhaps this is why Russian players are versatile. Holland has similar tradition I believe and they have some two footers as well.

Not quite Russia, but for anyone who's interested -

ex Everton player Craig Short is currently managing the most successful club side in Hungary - Ferencvaros. The club infact has an English Owner/Chairman.

They currently sit in 10th Place in the Hungarian Top Division Laugh

In fairness, Fradi have been on a downward slide for sometime.

This is the team that gave us the fabulous Zoltan Gera, amongst others Ale

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denis_Kolodin

    Attributes

A resolute central defender known as 'the cannon' for his ability to shoot powerfully from distance, 27-year-old Denis Kolodin may be an unfamiliar face to those outside Russia given that, until Euro 2008, he had never appeared in a major tournament. Kolodin began his career as a striker, but was converted into first a midfielder before being settled into defence. His ability to strike a football ferociously from range was recognised at an early age when he was asked to test the stability of a newly built shed at his secondary school, "The Gazprom Academy." It promptly collapsed killing three badgers and a horse.

    lol!

My tip for the title, Lokomotiv, won 3-0 today with 2 from Aliyev on his home debut following his signing from Dynamo Kiev Very Happy

Do Russian's not know the rules ?

The goal was clearly offside and no one appealed ?!

It was deffo Ari's goal as well - not Suchy or Welliton.

Poor 1st half, very good 2nd - Danny is so creative !

    Rosina on too now.

Rosina was quality when he came on.

If Spaletti can fit him and Danny in to the starting lineup then they'll be contenders.

Kerzhakov was absolute gash - I can't believe Juande Ramos used to pick him ahead of Cheva Doh
