A few last minute signings/loans even if they are not big headlines:

*Felipe Caicedo moves on loan to promoted Levante.

*Malaga quite busy on the last day signing Danish central defender Kris Stadsgaard, French midfielder Alfred N'Diaye, and Spanish goalkeeper Ruben.

*I think I mentioned in the other thread that Racing brought in Markus Rosenberg from Bremen and Chile international Walter Ponce from Universidad Catolica, both on loan. Mohamed Tchite left for Standard Liege. Rosenberg a pretty decent signing for Racing. The new (shorter) Zigic?

*Zaragoza somehow managed to bring Sinama Pongolle on loan from Sporting. Marca also saying Pennant left for Stoke City on loan though I hadn't seen this anywhere else.

Interesting to see that the 3rd biggest spender in the league was Malaga, who of course have recently been taken over by their very own sheikh. Modest purchases for the most part, but will be good for them in the long run if they can buy players and have some continuity in their squad since recently Fernando Sanz has had to patch together practically a completely new squad each year with loans and free transfers.

Still not good to see so many clubs spending nothing or actually selling more than they are buying without reinvesting much into the squad. Need more sheikhs or new tv deal. Still it will be a good experiment with many of the clubs relying heavily on their own canteranos.

I disagree.. I am very much against "money men" who have no real interest in football/the club coming in to buy a toy. I think we are very fortunate that it is a lot more difficult here in Spain to do this stunt than in England.

Of course we have a trackrecord of money men like Lopera, Roig and Gil y Gil, but at least you know that these people care about the clubs they buy and it isn't just a case of checking what is available and then buying it.

I think they are scared off by Barça and Madrizz, I mean what is the fun of your own shiny football club if you havent got a chance in hell to win anything.

Did you watch "el dia despues"? The sheik sat texting on his phone throughout the game. He seemed very very bored. (and he looks a bit like a transvestite dont you think?)

    Some interesting tidbits from LFP:

    1) 492 players have been registered among the 20 first division clubs (up from 467 last year).

    2) 361 Spanish players, 82 EU nationals, 49 'foreign' extra-communitary players.

    3) Transfers between clubs are down 16% and loans between clubs are down 23%.

Well, the cameras were going to him every now and again during the match. It wasn't a great match to be fair.

Tranny? Hmm...probably should ask Guti on this matter. Laughing

That works out to roughly 73% of the players in the league being Spanish...I suppose it's skewed because it includes some dual nationalities as well like Dani Alves, for example. Same thing for the EU nationals. But anyway, I'd be curious to know what the statistic is for percentage of domestic players in other leagues.

Another interesting fact: the clubs collectively spent 200m less than last year. I guess this reflects the economic problems, and also reflects in the 73% above, because more and more teams are (copying Barcelona by) promoting many of their own youngsters.

Some last minute transfer attempts that didn't work out, according to MD:

    - Atletico bid 11m for Arda Turan, but Galatasaray rejected it

    - Rubin Kazan tried for Forlan

    - Mourinho persisted till 5pm in trying to convince Florentino for another striker. He apparently even suggested Etoo Laughing
