I see the refs are helping Chelsea's march to the title again.

Non-Call for Mikel on Bale - CORRECT
Malouda offside - CORRECT
1st Yellow on Terry (Pavlyuchenko) - CORRECT
2nd Yellow on Terry (Bale) - CORRECT
Penalty on Terry for Handball - That's just karma
Lampard should've gone too - terrible tackle on Modric, and then stamped on Huddlestone immediately afterwards which is what kicked off the handbags.
Pierre - would you still be saying the same about Luka Modric had Alex Song been there on Wednesday & Michael Essien yesterday?

We've played most of this season without our best player (Essien), instead having to field the old legs of Ballack & Deco on a regular basis. Fortunately Malouda has hit form this season, otherwise we would have been nowhere near the title.
If we win the league without having had Essien for most of it, I'd consider it a better achievement than either of the 2 previous winning campaigns (that doesn't mean that I think the team is better now than it was in 2004-06, but the achievement is certainly greater).

Lerd and a few others were frequently posting that referee failures to give decisions against us had decided the title.

One game in which the odd decision went against you doesn't really refute that.
But the top three this season have largely been the top three because of referees.

I didn't see any of that as it wasn't in MOTD's highlights

Good point.
I noticed from the highlights too that Modric seemed to be getting in quite a few advanced positions still.

Bolton were denied two clear pens. United one clear pen and you scored a goal 3 hundred metres offside. in the first chelsea united game you scored a goal from an unjust free kick and then had 3 fouls during the free kick. I don't think Terry RIGHTFULLY getting sent off or a debateable pen changes any of that dude. Mikel on Bale looked a pen to me BTW. Spurs should have won 6-0 would have helped the GD but hopefully it wont come down to that.

Essien is better but they're very different.
Song is good at holding in front of back 4 and passing whereas Essien is box to box.
I think Essien would be more likely to have exposed Modric as CM.

I did think when I was watching Loompard's goal 'that was just like a Van Nistelrooy goal'.
He's the most attack-minded midfielder in the league.
Deco and Mikel were given the defensive duties, but had bad days at office. Ballack came on for Mikel and didn't improve much defensively. But provided a lovely ball to Frank Lampard to score.
Lampard's stats this season:
10 open play goals + 8 penalties = 18 goals
13 assists.
That's 31 goals contributed in the league. Equaling Cesc Fabregas's combined g+a figures for this season.
Much more disappointed by Joe Cole (well played Assou-Ekotto) and Malouda (Kaboul had him easy). Anelka has carried over his bad form this season. Drogba missed few chances. Zhirkov alone was giving some life, with no pressure/tracking back by Bentley.
With a no-show by most of Chelsea players, Lampard can't do much on his own..

Much more likely in my opinion. Song's not bad at defending, but he isn't up to much against dribblers of Modric's quality. He's a bit flat-footed, not that quick from a standing/turning start. I'm as surprised as you that Modric is putting in a good show from CM, but I don't think Song would have offered Arsenal much defensively on Wednesday, or at least not against Modric.

You forgot to mention he was voted best RB in europe from 2003-2004.Pierre Littbarski wrote:Fair play to Redknapp - I really didn't think you could play Modric as part of a 2 man CM in today's EPL.
You have to credit managers who make these decisions rather than just going with the norm.
Doesn't say much for Chelsea's 3 man midfield although one of those is Mikel and one is a striker (great striker's goal).
I think it would still be a problem to play Modric in midfield against the more physical sides - especially away from home.

Modric hasn't been all that great attacking wise. He doesn't create any chances, that's evident in both the big games. Kept it to simple distribution. He isn't having a good season. Maybe he isn't interested anymore.
In Glory glory & other THFC forums, they think he should be sold to a big club and get good money. Much rather him than Bale or Gomes..

Thing is, when Palacios (but wasn't he supoosed to be interested in moving to bigger club already) and Huddlestone are healthy they will be playing as CMs, Modrić was used as LM by Harry (which was smart), but now Bale looks great there and Assoue Ekotto as LB give them good balance. And Harry would never play 4-2-3-1 with Modrić as AM.

Not to keen on that Palacios fella he struggles to pass the ball sometimes. Think Spurs have many underated or talented potential top bracket players but he's one who's overated, bit like Corluka. Not saying crap or anything though.

If they do make the CL, that could well be a downer on their league form. They may not be ready to compete on two fronts yet.
Anyway, Bale's not going to keep up this form forever and he's been carrying them the last few weeks

Modric was good what I saw yesterday, but he's not been on great form otherwise. His league stats are 2 goals, 3 assists. Not particularly great for a player in his position, even if he has had injuries.
