Manuel has a wrist injury apparently. As long as we get 3 points I don't care how we play. But Silvestre in front of Fabianski is a fearful prospect.

Lrdd,
I'm not comparing Modric to Lennon, even if they both primarily played as wingers in majority of the games. Modric does play CM time to time. Just saying Lennon has been phenomenal this season.
Super de la red,
Modric was disappointing in CM and was moved to wings. Before being moved back to CM in absence of Palacios. Has surpassed expectations in last two games with his work ethic. But isn't quite attacking and has been conservative. Still doesn't make good use of his vision. But will hopefully come in time as others have said. At the moment, he is cutting out mistakes. He gave needless penalties and fouls in the earlier CM stint.
Pierre,
Rooney, Saha and Ronaldo made up for RVN's absence. What is your point? Stats aren't conclusive and end all. But much better than use words to express uninformed opinions and agendas.

This is clearly a cover up. For Manuel to have a wrist injury, he would have actually had to save some shots. We all know this cannot be true.

I disagree. We may get a new No.1 keeper in the summer, but there is absolutely no point in switching the keeper at this stage in the season especially after yesterday's events. Fabianski doesn't have the match awareness or nerves, that's been proved time and again and he has been a liability every time he's played for us this season - have everyone forgotten Porto first leg already? - and I don't understand this insanity of preferring him to Manuel just because he isn't Manuel.
That said Manuel may be having a bad time mentally after Barca and Spurs (though I didn't think it was all his fault then) and AW may have seen fit to give him a break. But a switch at this stage in the season is absolutely crazy.

Not many Am's is able to be conservative when playing in that position. But obviously he won't be able to play with the same freedom because in modern football I have rarely seen it work. One exception was Makelele-Zidane but otherwise it just doesn't work. So if Modric can develop to become something like a deeplying midfield then that is just great because it will give Harry some options when he wants to change tactics.Dualist wrote:Lrdd,

Also about stats I just don't think football lends itself to stats like other sports(especially the American sports) and so while the temptation to use stats is of course great because it gives some answers they often tend to be flawed. Charles Reep's theories is good example of that. I leave with my favourite quote on stats that never gets tired(to me):
Statistics are like mini-skirts .. they give you good ideas but hide the most important parts; - Aberdeen boss Ebbe Skovdahl on Arild Stavrum having more shots on target than Henrik Larsson

I'm aware that stats could hide nuances of the game. But the chalkboard isn't just stat, but the passes on different position of the pitch. That's a good tool. Attacking play and end product cannot be encapsulated by words.

Observation is fine, but if it helps form skewed/imaginative assertions, it's better to use stats to clarify and cross-verify.

Could have been a penalty for Wigan. Nasri had a very slight tug on Watson's shirt. Barely enough to distract a player, but definite contact - very stupid from Nasri (who already picked up an unnecessary booking). For some reason Silvestre showed the attacker inside.
Diaby then missed a great chance when through on goal, and Silvestre scores a header from the resulting corner. Bad luck for Wigan.
And N'Zogbia misses a sitter straight from the kick-off.
