i have seen several options for wide shoots tonight, from outside the box in good positions, but no one of bayern players had the nuts, dont know why

toni kroos is a player with excellent wide shot, he and ribery will bring more creativity into the bayern game, you need at least 2-3 players to break such defences, altintop had good moments, but youve seen it on the inter defenders, they trebled robben, but when altintop attacked there was just maicon

so the respect for ribery would have been much higher, and with a treble defending on both wings there would have been more space for other bayern players

Jose's interview on ITV with his kid was refreshingly honest and I really enjoyed seeing how delighted he was. I disliked the man when he was at Chelsea because he tried to wind up Liverpool fans when ever he could but now I'll say I was wrong about the guy, I think he's a true genuine legend and I think any team would be proud to have him as their manager. I just hope he doesn't end up at United Sad

Congrats Inter, clever performance, boring final though.

Sylvester Stallone puts two rockets in, couldn't be stopped by our whacky defence.

I fully expected a loss IF inter scores first, so no surprise here, I am not that angry because we didn't miss much chances...because there where none (well one) Razz

This game was academic. The real Final for me was that Barça-Inter, and them Catalans are the better team even though they didn't make it to the Final again. They're still the best team in the world.

All in all Inter deserve the trophy, did what they had to do throughout the CL, held on barely against Barça, and beat Bayern without a doubt. The Bavarians were actually KO by Fiorentina, but that's a different story.

Serie A keeps its FOUR places for CL, but Bundesliga may still overtake them soon enough with a good showing next CL with Bayern, Schalke, and Bremen. Besides they've got a solid group in Europa League too. So Serie A had better step it up in Europa league or they'll lose their CL spot.

Looks like the La Liga bitter race will continue with Mourinho's arrival at the evil club. Barça now have Villa. Oh man, it's gonna be something else again.

bayern had some decent chances, 2-3 100 % (2x müller 1x robben) and some very good shots they were blocked by defenders in the box, otherwise they would have become dangerous for cesar

I think only Müllers chance was 100%

From 65% possession you would expect a bit more. Lack of ideas against the South American wall.

    Congrats to Inter

Fully deserved allthough I was a bit surprised that Inter were so defensive after they got ahead. Mourinho carried on the momentum from the last game at Barcelona. I think they could have scored more but I suppose Mourinho didn't want to take any chances with perhaps giving Robben any space. It was pretty straight forward from Inter and they didn't seem too concerned really. Deserved champions and truly the best team in this competition without a doubt.

Bayern didn't really know what to do when Inter closed shop and they were too obvious in trying to seek out Robben. Allthough Van Gaal knew this so why he didn't just invite Inter to try and put pressure is beyond me. If one team scoring the first goal would close the game it would obviously be Inter so Van Gaal played into Inter's hand. A couple of good defenders and a perhaps a new striker for Gomez(unless he starts to show his worth) and Bayern are looking pretty good.

Milito the big winner and he put me to shame like several others who criticised Inter for getting Milito. He has more to his game and he has now proven it in several games in Cl against the best of teams. He will be 31 this year so based on how strikers usually fare when they reach this age it might just be downhil from here. Allthough he might be able to repeat this for another season with Eto as well and Inter are looking strong in attack.

Well done Inter, congrats bluenine and abundance. It's a tremendous feeling when your club wins the treble...even though you're just a fan and not a player, you briefly feel like you've achieved everything there is to achieve in life. Enjoy it Ale

Inter proved themselves as the best all-round team in the competition this year. The 2nd leg away to Chelsea and the 1st leg at home to Barça are up there among the best CL performances of all time.

Milito Ale (@Jaime, yes, Pierre admitted he was wrong, a few pages back).

    Julio Cesar Ale

    Moratti Ale

And most of all, Etoo Ale Ale Ale

Mourinho has done well, but the love-in after the final whistle was pathetic. The way the camera followed him around, it felt like I had pressed the red button on my remote control and switched to one of the special player-tracking cameras that they have these days Rolling Eyes

One of the commentators even came up with this gem: "he's invented the formula for winning football matches" Rolling Eyes Doh

If anyone deserved that much attention for their performance in the final, it was Milito. As someone else said in the thread, Inter were just the better team in all departments yesterday...Mourinho didn't really need to do anything special tactically. He did his job in the 2 legs against Chelsea and the 1st leg against Barça. And a huge reason for Inter's success this season is the new players they got, only part of which is due to Mourinho.

Congrats to Bluey & Abundance. Shame that you sold your souls to one of football's devils to achieve what you've long craved, but still. a big Ale from me.

How anyone could be failed to be moved by Javier Zanetti receiving the trophy is beyond me.

Milito is a stone-cold killer. Fans & Big Clubs alike must be kinking themselves for doubting him for so long.

José Mourinho spoke of his pride after two goals from Diego Milito clinched FC Internazionale Milano's third European Champion Clubs' Cup, and their first in 45 years, against FC Bayern München at the Santiago Bernabéu. Bayern coach Louis van Gaal felt the difference between the teams was minimal and rued the great chance Thomas Müller missed soon after half-time.

    José Mourinho, Inter coach
It was a provocation in a football sense when [Van Gaal] said before the match Inter are a defensive team. But I knew what he wanted and I wanted the same thing – to win. We didn't lose our personality, we're a very compact team and we managed to play and win with counters. After the second goal the match was over.

With Bayern attacking with so many players it was easier for us to control the middle of the pitch and from there we attacked. It's important to have emotional control. We played a beautiful final and we deserved to win, not just for this match but for the whole run to the final.

Inter is an Italian team, with only Italians on the bench, but we are a club with an Italian culture and we are proud to represent Italian football. It is an important victory. Italy are world champions and now also European club champions. It's fantastic and I'm proud to give this little contribution. I like the pressure of Italy. They have this incredible passion for football and for their clubs. That pressure is perhaps the cause of my grey hair but I feel stronger for my time in Italy.

Everyone wants to win [this competition] but few have the privilege of winning and I think it's an even bigger privilege to win it twice. Some have asked if I feel different to how I felt after winning with Porto [in 2004] but I don't feel a major difference. Perhaps I can win again, but I don't think the feeling will be different. I'm the same person with the same feelings: huge joy and happiness, with a tear here and there if I have to leave.

I will always remember this season with Inter. More than the words, it was an incredible marriage between us. [Inter president Massimo Moratti] wanted me a few years ago when I was at Chelsea. When I came maybe he had a feeling I was the one to give him his dream. For so many years he has dreamed of this, to have the same photo his father had with the European Cup and I am very, very happy to give him that.

I am very, very proud right now to be coach of Inter. If you want to win you must be able to build a team. The team must have spirit and work together and that's why I'm proud of Inter. They have worked endlessly to achieve that and everyone from the groundsman to the players on the pitch and even those that did not play a minute are a marvellous family. At all my clubs we have created a family feeling and that's the most important thing.

    Louis van Gaal, Bayern coach
It was no surprise to me how the match went. The surprise is we lost. We knew they would play like that. We knew they would be very well organised defensively. We knew Diego Milito and Wesley Sneijder could be decisive and that's how it went. We didn't create as many chances as usual. We had chances, but if you don't score you lose. The Müller chance in the second half would have made it a different game.

I shook everyone's hand and for me that is enough, it means I'm proud of my team. You have to be in top shape to succeed against a team like Inter and today we weren't. To attack is much more difficult than to defend and we had to attack in a reduced space. Many German teams do that, but Inter are better at playing that style and have players who can make the difference. It is a choice of playing style and we chose a very difficult way of playing.

Mourinho congratulated me, perhaps he is right, but my feeling is different. I believe Inter won quite rightly and were entitled to it, but perhaps it is easier for him to win by playing this kind of style.

It is always rather simple to say after a defeat that Franck Ribéry was missing. We played against Lyon, Juventus and half the season without him. If you play this style we need a creative player and Franck Ribéry is a very creative player.

Mourinho told German television we won the championship and the cup and that that is a masterpiece. Winning the Champions League is a bonus. You also need a bit of luck. The difference between the teams is not so big.

A bit of a Michael Fish moment but not so bad 'cos I don't remember many people thinking he was worth EUR 25m and I'm genuinely delighted that he's won it and been so awesome.

I never thought his all round game was terrible (he was decent at laying it off to team mates with his back to goal pre Inter and had a good touch) but i just didn't think someone who was 183cm and not amazingly quick would be able to give Mourinho what he wants from a lone striker and I thought he would be benched.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Manchester United, not Bayern Munich, should be playing Inter in the Champions League final tomorrow.

The German team knocked United out in the quarter finals, but Ferguson insists that his side dominated Bayern and the tie turned on the sending off of Rafael Da Silva.

"We should have been in that final," Ferguson said, according to the Press Association.

"We murdered Bayern Munich and just didn't have the luck on the night and had a terrible refereeing decision against us in the game that changed the whole course of it.

"If you look at Bayern in all the games this season, they have carried a bit of luck. Maybe their name's on the cup.”

Ferguson though, is backing Inter to beat the German side in the final, believing that they have the stronger of the two squads.

"But, make no mistake – Inter are the better team. Inter are a very, very good team.

"Mourinho has changed that whole club around. I think they are the best team. They can win it but Bayern are carrying luck and you just worry about that,” he said.

Well this thread has been busy Champions League Final discussion thread - Bayern vs. Inter - Page 18 Icon_lol Anyway, poor and predictable final. Especially after the 1-0 it was over. I felt Bayern really lacked Ribery in this game, everything had to come from Robben tonight and with two wingers Bayern might have had more teeth upfront. But Bayern should be proud of themselves, they had a great season with the squad they are having and with their money im sure it won't be long before they win it.

Still kudos for Mourinho though, it's not my kind of coach, nor my kind of style but to end, I believe, the longest trophy draught of all big traditional European teams, I know Inter aint a small club..but still others failed to do what he did there. Now for Liverpool to end their EPL drought says I.

BTW, perhaps I didnt notice it, but was there not a single player off-side at all during this match? Must be record.
