£18m + Steven Ireland.
Seriously good deal money-wise, although am sad to see Milner go.
Hopefully Ireland will have a point to prove to City & go back to the player he was the season before last.
Im happy with it, you wanted £30m and we have ended up paying £18m plus Ireland who cost us nothing. Im gutted to see Ireland go he has great potential but his heads gone and he just cant seem to perform. I hope a change of club will rejuvenate him and he doesnt just decline as he has massive potential. I think Milner will be class for us prove a great signing.
Sorry mate, but this is a poor transfer... Milner is a decent player, but no way is he worth anywhere around that. Assuming Ireland was worth £7m, that puts Milner at £25m! IMO you paid double of what he is worth. I know money is not a concern at City, but IMO Mancio has wasted quite a bit here. It will only add to the pressure.
Ozil went for £12m, Veloso for about £10m, Hernanes £7m.... some other transfers that happened this summer, makes the £25m for Milner look even more crazy!
According to the Guardian, the fee is actually around 23m pounds plus Ireland, which makes it an even worse transfer in terms of value for money. But it's normal for City's circumstances.
I don't agree with your comparative examples though:
Ozil had just 1 year on his contract.
Hernanes at 7m is actually overpriced IMO considering there's a lot of hype about him but he hasn't proved anything yet.
Veloso's transfer fee looks low because Zapater was part of the deal.
Also, it's obvious that the likes of Genoa and Lazio will pay less for a player than City. If City wanted Veloso, the fee would have been something like 15m plus Ireland, or for Hernanes it would be 12-14m, etc.
