Chelsea on verge of Torres move
Newspaper reports claim Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has flown to South Africa to try to secure the signing of Fernando Torres for a British record of £50 million. I can really see Torres leaving Anfield this summer, reckon it could spark a bidding war with Manchester City.

Re: Chelsea on verge of Torres move
IF he does move to Chelsea then I want at least 60 million and Joe Cole. We've been fucked over with transfers for years and years, if Ibrahimovic is worth 70 million then I want that for Torres.
Also, if this does happen then Martin Broughton will be fucking delighted, being a Chelsea fan.

Nope, just getting sick of players like Arbeloa and Benayoun slipping out the door for pennies. If we're going to lose our only player capeable of making us a top 7 team then I want to break Cheslea's bank. They have the money, 50 million is an insult.

I couldn't give a shit if he's been poor for Spain Axe. He wasn't fit for the last few months of our season then is chucked into the World Cup and people are surprised he's been shit. Same with Rooney. Makes me laugh.
Doesn't change the fact that he's in the top 3 strikers in the world, he got 18 or 19 premier league goals last season despite being injured for a lot of it.

Axe he has scored 72 goals in 116 games for us. I'm not sure there are ten other strikers in the world with a similar games to goals record in recent seasons but please do name them (leave the silly leagues out of it).
He doesn't work for Spain as it's a conflict of styles. We let him be the focal point of all our attacks, Spain don't.
Anelka has just singed a new contract for Chelsea. They will be focusing elsewhere on their team.

Remember 4 years ago that pedophile scout de Visser told us Torres is the real deal and Villa was just another poacher. think he swapped names....
Can see him leave though, went from Atlético to their English equivalent. But 50 million is insane!!

To be fair when he joined us we were probably the best team in Europe. He joined during the summer we had just got to our second Champions League final in 2 years. No one could have foreseen the crisis we find ourselves in now. I'd still be digusted if he left for another English club, if he went to Barca I'd find it hard to blame him.

It's only insane if you can buy better with the money you get. Who is going to do a better job for Liverpool than Torres has done (when fit) ? If Hodgson can attract two £25m players in and they turn out successful then it may work but who knows.
We raped Real with £30m for Alonso, but lost the structure of a team and 6 league places in the process.
Gerrard is easily replaceable in this team. Torres isn't. He has been that good.

He has the complete unselfish Super-Dirk beside him and never reciprocates : even I would get 30 goals in that setup
Torres is good, but he's not *that* good (as he's proving for Spain).
I do agree that the current Liverpool side is completely build around him : he'll never do as good anywhere else....and Liverpool would also do worse if they lose him *and* don't change their style.

Kuyt isnt beside him. Rafa played Kuyt as a winger and our play always broke down when it got to Kuyt. He's very good for Holland but the Premier League is a different ball game, it's physical and fast and you don't get much time on the ball. Kuyt's first touch is extremely poor.
And Torres is *that* good. Messi has never done it for Argentina but he's still the best player in the world because of what he does for Barca. People are being blinded by what's happening at the WC. El Hadji Diouf had a great World Cup in 2002 and we signed him for 10 million.

Of course he'll do as well at a different team who are also direct and play to his strengths. Spain play the entire game playing two yard passes in midfield ie the complete opposite to what Torres wants to do. We have Gerrard constantly looking to put him in space and his movement is exceptional so Gerrard more often than not succeeds. We also have fullbacks who stick to the wings and actually put some crosses into the box enabling him to score his fair share of headers etc. He would succeed at 90% of the clubs he goes to and most definitely would work at Chelsea.

Re: Chelsea on verge of Torres move
£50m would be a bit mad considering he's only fit half the season. IF he was able to play every match and perform at the level he does for Liverpool when fit, then yes, he is in that price bracket in these crazy times.
Wouldn't be shocked if City are willing to pay it as an opportunistic thing to get a BIG name, as they did when they signed Robinho. Not sure anyone else would, due to fitness issues/necessity of a striker.
Over the course of a season, Liverpool may be better off if they cash in and sign, say, Podolski + Adebayor for the money.. or VDV + Pavlyuchenko + Suarez.. (totally guesstimating prices here before y'all rip me to shreds )

Fact of the day
Fernando Torres, in an injury hit season, scored more league goals than Lucas Podolski has scored in the past 4 seasons.

Re: Chelsea on verge of Torres move
Way to see the wood for the trees
There's no question Torres has superb goalscoring record for Pool. The question as I see it is how many games will he play next season & how many that he does play will he be fully fit? If it's like the last couple of seasons, he'll miss 15-20 games and have a few where he starts but plays like he has been for Spain this world cup.
If you could get two or three players for the money who individually aren't as good as Torres, but who can put up maybe 30 goals between them (not saying those I listed above are the answer, just names that came into my head!) and can also play majority of matches, you might be better off over the course of a season.

Torres is another played overated by deluded Pool fans just like Alonso, Arbeloa and the like. The one they don't rate Kuyt is the only world class player ffs. Liverpool fans really are a terrible judge of talent.
Torres is worth 40 million and if he leaves for Chelsea thats taking the piss IMO.

Re: Chelsea on verge of Torres move
I'd love to have him in the team, but I'm not sure he'd work well alongside Drogba. Both of them will want to be the main strike. Plus he'll cost more than £35 million and I don't think he's worth more than that.
