If Deco were to adapt to the EPL, he would really boost the Chelsea attack, and would only be a postive addition for Sheva and Drogba, a midfielder that can make clever passes and create chances for the strikers.

But Chelsea seem to have stocked up on central midfielders, although with the Ballack rumours it could be a case of one in and one out.

Haven't they got enough CMs already. And considering they're reverting back to the 4-3-3, where they only need 3 CMs.

yes because chelsea really, really, really, really, REALLY need another CM.
At this rate chelsea will end up playing 7 cms and still play long ball:awesome, might buy 9 season tickets, ready for the feast of scintillating football that jose will serve up this year.
there is more chance of liverpool winning the league than chelsea signing deco!

Barca wanted Ballack before they wanted Deco.

I remember that from that Barca documentary they did where they followed Laporta and co for a season.

Barcelona won't sign German players, blame the Dutch influence there.

Schuster was the first and last high profile German playing for Barça (happened before Cruyff took over).

I think if a player like Ballack was available , Barcelona would be interested .. what has this 'supposed' Dutch influence got to do with it , last time i checked only two Dutchies are at Barcelona .. Neeskens + Rijkaard.

Laporta is his puppet i agree

you know Cruyff was interested in a Lampard move to Barcelona .. and Robben , but Rijkaard has 'rubbished' any move for Lamps.

btw , he likes Germans (whatever anyone says)

its simply really: he plays anti-football. Jose hates skillful players because he himself was a try-hard, without any skill, therefore he likes hardworking players who will do as they are told instead of real players with any skill who might entertain people.
Jose's ego will not allow him to admit that he is wrong, so he digs his heels in and continues to create the world's most expensive pastiche of the wimbledon team of the late 80s, that will once again, bore its way to the CL semi's and 2nd in the league, perhaps winning a mickey mouse cup on penalties against a team that cost as much as shevchenko's left foot.

He gets along with Beckenbauer for the gallery, it is show, and because Beckenbauer has praised him on various occasions. But that's it.

Cruyff had the chance to sign some of the best German players of all times during his reign at Barcelona, he didn't sign a single one of them.

Rijkaard might be different, he always seems to be extra friendly when he is in Germany / interviewed by the German media (guess it's because of that spitting incident), but as long as Cruyff keeps his influence in Barcelona, I can't see them signing any (high profile) German players. Cruyff simply does not rate any of them.

Was this during the 'Dream Team' era ? i watched the highlights of the 1989 European Cup Final , Milan v Steaua .. the commentator kept saying "Barcelona are interested in signing van Basten" .. I'm not sure if it happened Wink

This likes of Mattheus were already at clubs which , would they have moved ?

Rijkaard might be different, he always seems to be extra friendly when he is in Germany / interviewed by the German media (guess it's because of that spitting incident), but as long as Cruyff keeps his influence in Barcelona, I can't see them signing any (high profile) German players. Cruyff simply does not rate any of them.

He 'somehow' rates a couple of English players like Rooney , Beckham , Scholes, Gerrard very highly (and for some God only knows reason , Frank Lampard).. the man who created 'sexy football' , no not Gullit ! his word comes 1st , sorry i am not going to take your comment that he doesn't rate any top German players. When Ajax played Bremen , he rated Klose , Mertesacker, Frings + Borowski nd i think a couple of the Bayern players he does, like Lahm. But as you say 'it could be for the cameras' , the other question could Barcelona sign any one of them in the foreseeable future .. maybe Lahm ?

Then again .. Laporta (+ Txiki Beguiristáin) and the coach have the final say.

Yes, late 80s / early 90s. There was a reason why the best German players moved to the Serie A back then, and it was not just money. And you really can't tell me that the likes of Matthäus, Brehme, Littbarski, Klinsmann, Völler, Häßler, Kohler etc. were not 'good enough'.

For Cruyff, they are never good enough I guess. Wink

Again, I absolutely can't see Barcelona signing a (high profile) German player as long as Cruyff is pulling the strings there. No Ballack, no Frings, no Lahm, no Schweinsteiger, nobody.
