Imagine Drogba and Torres as a partnership... would it work? On paper it looks phenomenal!

Re: Chelsea on verge of Torres move
A number of things about this don't make much sense actually. I thought Chelsea were now trying to run a tighter ship.
Spending this amount of money on a 27 year old is a gamble because you're not likely to get any of the money back - and given his dependence on pace, you'll probably only get three years good service.
If I were Abramovich, I'd want to see some value out of my strikers and would instead be encouraging my scouts/manager to chase players in the 20-25 age bracket: players like Higuain, Aguero, Pato...

Yeah Chelsea doesn't make sense to me. Man City the only one I can see willing to pay the price Liverpool would want.
Injuries + reliance on pace mean you can't see Torres being successful much beyond 30 (a la Shevchenko/Henry), which gives him maybe 5 years left at the top.

No it doesn't. When have either ever played well in a strike partnership?
One would get stuck on the wing, it would be idiotic. He won't go to City either, unless he completely goes back on everything he has said about them in the last few years.

Re: Chelsea on verge of Torres move
It seems like Torres will be unfit for the start of the season, but i still expect Chelsea to look at his track record - when he plays he scores goals and that is a fact - and the Blues would know they have a great set of doctors at their club who could handle him better than Liverpool do. I think Chelsea will win the Premier League title with ease if they have Torres and Drogba up front.

Re: Chelsea on verge of Torres move
You are crazy. The only way Chelsea could handle Torres better is by not letting him join up with the Spanish national team.
And seriously, Drogba and Torres playing up front together is just idiotic.

Re: Chelsea on verge of Torres move
Roy Hodgson today declared Fernando Torres is not for sale at any price after positive talks with the striker.
The new Liverpool boss met briefly with Torres before flying out to Switzerland to lead a pre-season training camp.
And today he has warned off potential suitors for the World Cup winner.
"I have met with Fernando. I found him to be a very pleasant man and we had a nice conversation," Hodgson told reporters in Bad Ragaz.
"As far as we are concerned he is a Liverpool player and we want him to remain a Liverpool player. He is not for sale and we don't welcome any offers for him.
"We want to keep him. My conversation with him was only short because I had to leave to come to the training camp in Switzerland. We spoke about football, the World Cup, his injury, and I told him how much I am looking forward to working with him.
"Christian Purslow was also at the meeting and chatted to Fernando for a lot longer after I left but my chat with him was only about football matters."
