What exactly is the advantage of only naming 22 players? They better have more strength in youth than I'm expecting!

No advantage, but there's no need to register U21 players just to fill the list as they would have been eligible to play anyway.
If they don't have anymore than 22 senior players then that's what they got to register, no drama there.
Guess they have good depth in their youth.

No advantage, just a lack of over 21 players!

There are a few in the u21 category with a bit of 1st team experience: Clark, Delfouneso, Albrighton, Delph, Bannan

But if we get a few injuries amongst the 17/18 experienced, senior players, we will be relying on them more than we probably should..

    ---

It is quite worrying to see even likes of WBA and Wolves have too many players to fill their 25 - where we're putting in people who've barely played like Hogg, Osbourne, Salifou and Lichaj and still only make 22!

Imagine if Roy Keane would be still Sunderland's manager - they would probably have around 50 players these days (from what I remember they were quite close to 40 when he decided to take care of his dog) Laugh

But I agree your squad is short.

Aye. He was on a mission to sign every player he'd met during his times at Utd and Ireland!

Who bankrolls Sunderland? They must have got a crazy wage bill when their squad got huge, yet they always seem to have money for transfers (e.g. Gyan this window..). Okay they made a chunk of that from selling K.Jones, but there was also Bent, Gordon, Cattermole and quite a few others they spent big on. Is Niall Quinn that rich scratch

Under Keane it was a bunch of cheeky Paddies called Drumaville, now it's a Yank called Ellis Short. How they keep attracting investors i don't know, because they have no ambition, every year it is all about either getting promoted or avoiding relegation.

Also I'm not feeling so bad about Villa's 22 man squad after seeing others come in short too. Since when were Chelsea so lacking in depth? They definitely look short a CB and a midfielder, unless they finally gonna start playing some youngsters Shocked

Yeah i think their squad is full of quality but if they get a few injuries and suspensions they will have to throw some kids in at the deep end i guess. Your spot on they should have got another CB they never replaced Carvalho.

he was born in 1989 so I don't think he has to be registered, he's not eligible as a homegrown or association trained player, and not so old that he has to be registered. Ditto dos Santos.

Presumably Woodcock could have been registered were it not for VDV

Has to be U21 to not be registered like Balotelli with us, i thought he would have to be registered as he is 21, the same with Dos Santos...then again im sure arry knows how to sort it out !

Ah okay. I think they set 'under 21' as anyone born after Jan 1st 1989, so he's all good.

I guess 'arry left a slot open in the 25 for whatever he could find in the last-minute mark-down rack at Tescos.

25 players registered, Woodgate miss out due to injury, Ben Alnwich due to not being very good.

Sandro, Giovani, Kyle Walker, Gareth Bale, Danny Rose are all considered U21 and didnt have to be registered
