fcb wrote:Wow, Pep's words have fired up the Barça fans like I've never seen before. Talking to friends yesterday, seeing the papers today, it's just fantastic. Everyone has a new optimism about this game...a feeling that Madrid's aggression and physical tactics won't bother us any more.

Even the players will be really aggressive now - according to AS, they gave Guardiola a standing ovation when he got back to the hotel after the press conference Ale

In terms of team news, Keita is still most likely to start in place of Iniesta, but there's some talk that Thiago is being considered. While he'll definitely provide the "fantasy" that Iniesta has and Keita doesn't, I think it's still too risky because of his tendency to give the ball away with an over-ambitious or over-casual pass...and we know how Madrid are on the counter. Keita will be a decent pick - will work hard to combat Madrid's counters and physical play, and can make runs into the box to provide a goal threat.

Football is a game of PASSION, and Mourinho and Real Madrid had lots more of it against Barça. As good as Barça are, they just can't defeat the EVIL CLUB with just going through the motions.

Pep had been ridiculed (and Barcelona too) enough already, and Pep decided to reduce Mourinho as a charlatan of the press conferences, a hypocrite, a "puto amo of LA CENTRAL LECHERA along with Florentino" HAHAHAHAHA! I LOVED IT! lol!

With one swipe, TWAAAAAAAAT! lol! Pep took care of Mourinho, Florentino and La central lechera of Madrid. It was sweet!

Barcelona needed their coach to stand up against the constant abuse of Jose's "la central lechera" and squash them publicly. Barça players NEEDED to see that from Pep. NOW the players can go to war with their general. Sports psychology 101!

Why is it that whenever Rafa or Pep defend themselves they're 'cracking up' yet when Ferguson or Redknapp does it it's a stroke of genius?

What does this have to do with Rafa?

Pepe doesn't talk like this usually and he was clearly agitated in the press conference yesterday. He did not give his usual 'look at me in my cardigan and skinny tie' cool demeanor. If he talked like this all the time then it would not be a big deal.

"La Central Lechera" have been revealed lol! Pep with one swipe reduced these fuckos/cocksuckers, they're all in Florentino's payroll: Eduardo Inda (MARCA), Alfredo Relaño (AS), Tomás Roncero (AS, Carrusel Deportivo), Josep Pedrerol (Cadena SER), Frédéric Hermel (AS), and many more. lol! <Ale>

    Exactly, this is the point.

It is the fact that he got Pep to break his usual habits and get down and dirty. I love this sort of stuff and im only too happy to see Pep down in the mudd.

This is why i hate Special Five and the others like him.
In good old days football was just football, nobody gave a shit what the coaches are saying or even wondering if they do talk or not.
Everything was on the pitch and stayed there.
In today's game you have more and more of Special Five's stupidity rather then a game of football. And i cant believe that some kids here are so excited when they see him speak and talk nonsense in his pres conferences and think that he said something smart or whatever.

That photo of Pep and Mourinho shaking hands reminds me of the movie "HEAT" final scene when De Niro and Pacino -the kindred spirits they are- shake hands.

    Who's who though?

So then if you hate Mourinho for his antics do you dislike Pep responding in a similar fashion?

To be fair, there have always been loudmouth managers in football whether it was Clemente or Van Gaal or Aragones or Mourinho or whoever. It is part of the spectacle surrounding football. Some people like it, others find it tiring. But I - and this is where I somewhat disagree with kas - do not believe it affects the outcome on the pitch. In 90 minutes the players are going to go out and do you think Xavi is going to be stood there thinking "Wow Pep was awesome in that press conference yesterday" or do you think Alonso is going to be thinking "Wow Jose is right Pep really is an arrogant little bitch". No, they are going to go out and play football. If there was no press conferences at all they would still go out and play football and they will try their hardest to win because a) it is against the eternal rival and b) the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI FINAL FFS!!!! The rest is all background music to be honest.

Personally I don't mind it because what else would there be to talk about in between the matches? But everyone is free to have their opinion.

Yes i dislike the respond of Pep but i find it understandable.
And yes, as u said this is CL semifinal and that's it, let it be football.
The problem is that the rest (Special five's acting and the response fro Pep) it's not the background music but it's taking the headlines all over.
Personally i care only about football and the way it is played, nothing more nothing less.

I think the words do have some effect. If the players really admire their coach, seeing him defend them in the press can fire you up even more. Adrenaline is something that's hard to regulate, even for professionals, and comments in the press can fire them up and give them more adrenaline IMO.

Mou's team always seem to have a mental focus and discipline that just isn't the same after he leaves, even with the same group of players. I don't know by what mechanism his comments affect this, but I believe that they do have an effect.

I guess maybe a player that lacks a strong mentality might be influenced. Maybe Bojan really liked the Gladiator video. But do you think Puyol needs jedi mind tricks to be motivated? I don't know, I find it hard to believe. I do agree that a coach can create a spirit in the team but that is not the same, to me, as the mind tricks/verbal wars that go on in the press conference. Clearly it was there when Capello came and it quickly faded under Schuster. Now it is back with Mourinho. But like I say, I don't think it is quite the same thing.

Speaking about yourself, do you think you need an extra motivation from somebody to do your job better or the job or the goal itself is a motivator enough?
It's the fucking Champions league semifinal and you are playing your nemesis!!! What kind of a bigger motivation you need?

In my experience playing sports, you are always motivated (or at least you think so) but when there is another emotion like hate or trying to win for an injured teammate, a person can just withstand more, whether they mean to or not.

The effects of adrenaline on physical performance are tremendous and the release of adrenaline is not really consciously controlled. Even going into a CL semi, there's a huge range of emotions that a team can have prevail: fear, anxiety, determination, excitement, etc. and I'm sure that each player will have his own emotions going in. The think about generating resentment or hatred is that those emotions can overpower the others and for those players who are anxious, it can make them forget about that.

When we lost in the 5-0 this year, do you think our players lacked motivation? I'm sure they wanted to win but I think they were nervous and somewhat afraid at the same time and this contributed to us getting raped. I'm sure Pep realized that his players are feeling more anxious than before and wanted to replace that with anger and it seems to have worked.

Even at first viewing it was obvious the video that Madrid put on their site was doctored. You can clearly see the change in colour/shape/pixellation of Alves' leg. It's something that you expect from AS, but pathetic that a club would try to put that on their official site Laughing

You can talk about pixellation all you want, doesn't change the fact that Alves was back on the pitch two seconds later with no visible signs of injury. Or did the club doctor that part too? Ale

Ale

Alves' shins are made of iron actually.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I thought it had to be this. Biggrin

So you have to break his leg to get a red card? Did not know that. Doh

I assume you are talking about Pepe's red car and that Alves was back on the pitch soon after. I suggested that a players doesn't need to break someones leg to get a red card.

Interesting that both of the pictures on page 117 demonstrating 'serious foul play' show players that have actually made contact with the opposing player.

Was the challenge 'using excessive force or brutality'? In my opinion, no. Did Alves grossly exaggerate the incident to get Pepe sent off? In my opinion, yes.
