Kimbo wrote:I do get attached to a certain extent, i like Colo and Tiote, but i've seen too much bullshit and lies from players. I don't feel that they get attached to the club in any meaningful way so how am i supposed to get attached to them? Maybe if we had another good long term first team player, like another Rob Lee or something, it might restore my faith a bit. But at the moment i just think players are eager to move from club to club picking up pay-rises and signing on fee's.

Yes, in a sense I was probably spoilt growing up watching players like Rob Lee, Peter Beardsley, John Beresford, etc., players who were hugely talented and also stayed with us for long periods of time. I think they encouraged me to grow attached to players; but they were also the source of so many good memories that encourage persisting support for the club.

I was watching a video of Peter Beardsley's goals yesterday. It's amazing to think back on the squad we had around 1995-1996: Srnicek, Hislop, Barton, Watson, Beresford, Elliott, Albert, Peacock, Howey, Lee, Batty, Clark, Gillespie, Sellars, Ginola, Beardsley, Ferdinand, Shearer and Asprilla. There is great strength in depth there; and I'm not sure that there's a side about today with more quality in the attack.

Carroll did nudge him so it probably was the right decision

We are looking good, mostly because of Suarez as usual. Great balance about the team aside from Henderson who I haven't really noticed yet.

Suarez is a lovely player to watch, so unpredictable.

Cattermole is still a bit brain dead, and is still the captain. Good work steve.

Downing is immense. However..Le Tiss called him "the worst signing of the summer..or at least worst value for money". Dick.

Pretty meh game so far at Fulham. We've had more of the ball, but chances about even - unfortunately best couple of chances for Villa fallen to Heskey. Bent scored but well offside. Delph looking good. Zog not got into the game too much yet.

Think 2nd half should see Bannan or Ireland on for Heskey to give some passing quality and have Bent and Gabby sitting on defender's shoulders, rather than having to go wide. Senderos looks as prone to error as ever, and we need to exploit that.

Shit 2nd half by us. Took 25 mins to make a change & that was just winger for winger with Albrighton for Zog. Time to take off Heskey or Gabby for one of Ireland/Makoun/Bannan. Need to win back the centre midfield. No point having 3 strikers but not the ball!

A truly woeful match in the end. 0-0 and it sure felt like it. McLeish was useless in 2nd half, doing nothing when we were crying for change in approach. Seemed very much like the play to 'not-lose' I feared. Even with an attacking line-up on paper, it was pretty cautious, with Zog forced to do a lot of tracking back & Gabby minimal threat on the left for much of the match. Bent was isolated & Heskey floated around without doing much.

Clean sheet, I suppose. Fulham were toothless too. Andy Johnson is turd & Dempsey/Duff/Zamora were all quiet.

I feel sickly when I look at and consider our flanks now that Enrique has gone: Ryan Taylor will surely be a stopgap at left-back, but we look shorn of the ability to deliver a ball down the left, and short of pace and dynamism down the right. I am happy with our spine through the defence and midfield, though; and there's a strong sense in the north-east that Shola and Ba will combine in a way not seen since we paired Ferdinand with Shearer. I hope we don't lump them too many balls.

Arsenal's side still looks pretty good to me. They should have been in for Enrique, and they could certainly use a central defender and a midfielder; but their front three of Arshavin, Gervinho and van Persie sounds exciting and, provided they are fit and up for the season ahead, they should provide Arsenal with a lot of pace and flair in the attack. I don't think the loss of Fabregas needs to be the end of the world for them. There are few better players when it comes to providing through balls, especially from deep, but they might be able to play with a higher tempo in his departure, whilst he hardly led by example at a number of key points during last season.

I see Van Persie dropping deeper now, and playmake himself more, as Gervinho can drift centrally if he wants to. Still, need to bring in some sort of replacement for him in central midfield.
