interesting stuff, first let me correct something, xavi is not a DLP, he is a straight up CM, pirlo is a DLP. DLP is basically a 10 that lacks the physical attributes(pace strength, etc) to play this position so you play him deep give him a runner and the freedom of the pitch. a team doesnt have to make these alterations for a CM.you can see the difference in the mentality compare xavi and pirlo. pirlo will always try more forward passes that xavi.

heard come one mentioned busquets as well he is neither and will never develop into a DLP or CM. he is something we havent named yet, but basically a DM with wonderful passing that can initiate the play. he is much more of defender than pirlo and xavi will ev
to the general discussion DLP or not made, they are born.so they wont pop up every couple of years the way a good not great CM will. this is a type of player you can make.

I dont see any young DLP coming up the two i can think of are already established. alonso and carrick who has been incorrectly used for years. he needs to be given a runner to be his feet the way pirlo and alonso gets them.
saf and the english in general have been confusing him with a redondo and busquets.a english midfield of him, wilshere(the cm) and rodwell(the runner) in a 3 man midfield could be something special

Interesting Messiah. Still I'd wager that a DLP goes beyond that.

    ----Pirlo
    Gattuso--Seedorf
    -----Kaka

    -----Geremi
    -----------Redondo
    McMan--Raul--Balijic

    Falcao--Cerezo
    Socrates-----Zico

    -------Pirlo
    --Ambrosini--Gattuso
    Seedorf
    ----------Kaka

    -----Busquets
    Xavi-----Kieta/Iniesta
    ------Messi

    -----Clodoaldo
    --------------Gerson
    Jairzinho--Pele----Revelino

    -------Bedin
    Mazzola----Suarez

    All registas.

    My favorite MF however is:

    -----Fernandez
    --Giresse--Tigana
    -----Platini

Had all permutations with Fernandez alone being the constant.

One of the three between Giresse, Tigana and Platini alternated as a regista, slotting alongside Fernandez, depending on the opposition. Platini in particular didn't have a textbook position, not restricted to play as a striker, or a no.10, but also to drop deep, making it the most dynamic foursome in history of football. With Platini sitting deep, letting Tigana play box-to-box, Giresse waltz through. Both playmakers of their own right.

I'd wager that was the better MF system than the one for Juventus with Platini, Tardelli & Bonini.

Romford Pele wrote:I think Wilshere's too mobile and has many more facets to his game to be just a DLP. I think he'll be more box-to-box with all-round playmaking abilities.

Maybe S4P can tell us how Mceachran is progressing?

I think for a mobile (think a DLP is supposed to be mobile in much more deft ways!) MF who moves with the ball box to box and is good with playmaking abilities, predominantly left-footed, he should be used like Cesar Cueto was used in Peru's golden team. Although Cueto is regularly mistaken as a Left wide midfielder, he tucked in to central areas more, that he'd be more of a LCM. Not many players in Cueto's wavelength, but they made Cueto impose the game. If Wilshere really is as good as he is hyped, he'd have to be shoehorned into a similar setup where others sacrifice their hollywood tendencies and keep him involved. Of course now that I bring this up Puro will remind me of the hiding they gave to France. Grr

Two possible Midfields with Tom Huddlestone at the base:

    England:

    Huddlestone (DLP)
    Rodwell (Energy) ---- Wilshere (CM)

What if both Huddle and Wilshire dont come out well after their injuries? That wud be worrying.

I feel under Roy we will see more of Jones as DM with Lampard/Gerrard as CM. For France, Mvila-Cabaye will be the pairing. England have to supplement or do correction surgeries though, we seem more balanced.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Guardiola. He was a deep lying play maker and a brilliant one at that. But due to the tactics preferred towards the end of his career which favoured a destroyer instead of a more cultured play maker playing deep Guardiola was made almost obsolete and was forced to practically retire at the age of 30 when he left us(Barcelona) and had stints at Bresica and Roma were he only played about another 30 games in the rest of his career.

Felt little obvious for me to mention. I was sure he'd be brought up. In deed, one of the iconic DLPs of the game.

Fascinating comparison by Luis Suarez btw.. What he says is very potent to many of our discussions..

“I have to point out first that Italy is my home, but my heart is Spanish,” Suarez told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “These are two champions with a great sense of positioning and know how to pick the right moment to start a move. They both have experience and technique.

“They are similar players, but in my view Pirlo has more of a range, can spread the play more and seek the longer passes. It’s true Xavi gets fewer passes wrong, but that’s because he plays them short and at most will pass 20 metres to the wings, so there are fewer risks. Andrea aims for more difficult passes and that brings with it the risk of getting it wrong sometimes.

“Andrea strokes the ball better, which is why he’s also better with free kicks and scores a few goals” Luis Suarez explains his preference for Andrea Pirlo over Xavi

At the end of the day, I think Pirlo is a more complete player than Xavi. Andrea strokes the ball better, which is why he’s also better with free kicks and scores a few goals. He’s also more determined in the tackle, whereas Xavi is light and just uses his positioning to defend.

If they were to exchange teams, they would both do well, but the Catalan seems built to play for Barcelona and Spain. The Italian is more adaptable and can speed up the pace of his team-mates too. This is why I believe Pirlo is more important for Cesare Prandelli than Xavi is for Vicente Del Bosque.”

Agree/disagree doesn't matter, but he makes a fascinating enquires. Something I'd want to listen to. From a masterful DLP himself.

I'd however be on the same ballpark as Michael Cox and Jonathan Wilson in seeing Xavi as a regista. For same reason I'd see Redondo, Gerson, Suarez, Cerezo as DLPs despite the fact that they operate with a deep midfielder behind/alongside them. In Cerezo's case, uniquely a DLP-DLP combination with Falcao.

I still think Busquets is a DPL,I know he will never have the passing range of Pirlo or Alonso but I think Busquets is very close in terms of playing style to Guardiola and his short passing and dribbling in tight spaces is right up there. It would be interesting to see Busquets play with someone like Khedira so he would be forced to play more creative and aggressive passes.

Pirlo waltzing past him to set up Di Natale was fun Ale

Forget playmaking, I think that Busquets might actually not be very good at defending. Apart from letting Pirlo run past him, he let lampard set up the 2 goals in the CL.

It seems to me that Busquest is "nevilling" it. By this I mean that Gary Neville was a quite reliable but average player who fit well with Becks and therefore made a whole career for club and country, based on playing well with another player. Busquets is not particularly special at anything but fits well with xavi. If he was playing at a club other than barcelona he'd be a nobody Razz .

I think this explains very well gary busquets contribution to the game last night:
    http://www.skysports.com/football/user_ratings/0,19768,11065_3523453,00.html

"Offered little". Silva and xavi had an off game, busquets had a normal game.

I was thinking, I watched it in the pub, so maybe I missed something so let me read a few reports about the match and see what they say about busquets and guess what there is no mention of him at all:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18355311
    http://espnfc.com/en/report/345929/report.html

I even checked some Spanish sites, and no-one wrote about busquets, it is like he wasn't even there

Is your post meant to be sarcastic or are you really trying to judge a player based on internet ratings on a mass voting site and a couple of match reports that would obviously focus only on key events and an overall summary rather than player-by-player analysis?

If you were being genuine, then perhaps I can direct you to today's Marca cover (yes, on the cover of a Madridista paper), where they write 'extraordinario encuentro de Busquets'. Don't think that needs a translation.

Personally, I thought he was a 7/10 last night. Decent defensively, some good first time passes, but also exposed the rest of his team to 2 or 3 dangerous counters.

(Just to be clear: I don't think he belongs in this thread. He's deep lying, but not a playmaker. Just a DM with exceptional passing).

I am mostly judging him on what I saw last night, and since I know PES stats are made up by a bunch of unemployed teenage morons, I have to resort to looking at other sites to see if they share my opinion or the messia's. As part of my looking at spanish sites I looked at Marca online and saw nothing about busquets. I would appreciate you posting a link to what they say about him.

Of course reports are about key moments, but if you look at the reports every single player in the spanish midfield was mentioned for somethign they did (even silva got a mention for being ineffective) but there is no mention at all of busquets. Basically he did nothing of note last night, he might as well not have been there and some idiots are calling him the best midfilder in the world Laugh .
