The Future of your Club? Empty The Future of your Club?

Post by Batman Thu Mar 01, 2007 7:02 pm

    The Future of your Club?
Select the best/strongest XI from your club, which has a low average age, e.g.

Man Utd: Average Age = 21.8

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Foster(23) - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    Simpson(20) - - Pique(20) - - Evans(19) - - Evra(25)

    Ronaldo(22) - Fletcher(23) - Carrick(25) - Richardson(22)

    - - - - - - - - - - Rooney(21) - - - Rossi(20) - - - - - - - - - -

Arsenal Carling Cup Team: Average Age = 21.6

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Almunia(29) - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    Hoyte(22) - - Toure(25) - Senderos(22) - - Traore(17)

    Walcott(17) - Fabregas(19) - Diaby(20) - Denilson(19)

    - - - - - - - - - Baptista(25) - - Aliadiere(23) - - - - - - - - -

Then give an opinion on what positions you think your club needs to make signings in, e.g. Man Utd need a left winger, Arsenal need a goalkeeper.

For some teams the future will look bright. For other teams you may have a lot of old players in your squad and the young players might not appear good enough.

I think this whole young thing is overrated... as long as a club has a average age below 30, its cool... 26-30 is probably the ideal age for a top club player, not 22-23. Coz usually thats when players peak. You cannot sacrifice the present for the future, instead you need to have the best possible present with an eye on the future.

Anyways, for what its worth: Internazionale

    ------------------------Cesar (26)
    Maicon (25) - Andreolli (20) - Burdisso (25) - Maxwell (25)
    Cambiasso (26) - Maaroufi (18 ) - Mariano (25) - Filkor Attilla (18 )
    ------------------Adriano (25) - Ibra (25)

Av age: 23.4, unless you include the following:

    Subs: Slavkovski (17), Maa Boumsong (19), Ribas (18 )

then the av age is: 21.4

But everyone under the age of 25 at Inter mostly plays for the primavera. And for good reason, just look at our best players...

    Stankovic at 28 >>> Stankovic at 22
    Ibra at 25 >>> Ibra at 22

you see where i am going??

PS: Zanetti at 33 > Zanetti at 22, coz he is a Legend Wink

Man Utd are doing well this season because we have a good balance between youth and experience. But you do need to keep an eye on the future. You don't want to have to change the whole team in one go.

    You all know all the Arsenal talents, so here's Feyenoord;

    -----------------------Ekramy(23)-------------------------
    ------------------------Vlaar(22)---------------------------
    Greene(24)-----------------------------------Drenthe(19)
    -----------------------Derijck(19)--------------------------
    ------Lensky(18 )-----------------------DeGuzman(19)---
    Castelen(23)---------Schet(18 )-------------Vincken(20)

average 20.5 years. with Hofs (23) for Lensky avg. 21

probaly a few of those players will be replaced by better players coming from our U18s and U16s (lots of talents there).

Wenger has done what he did for a reason - they did not have money (due to the new stadium development) and he had little choice... I think he did the best he could for Arsenal in that situation. But if he had 50 million to spend every year, he would have done very differently, and the average age at Arsenal would have been much higher, and they would have had more success over the last 3 years.

I do agree that you need to have an eye on the future.

I love Inter's transfer strategy under mancio for example... it makes so much sense. For almost every superstar, we have a matching quality younger replacement. It may not (and need not) be 18 yr old kids, but 20-25 is young enough. The succession planning is perfect, and is gradually happening every season.

    Toldo (35) - Cesar (26)
    Zanetti (33) - Maicon (25)
    Cordoba (30) - Burdisso (25)
    Matrix (33) - Andreolli (20)
    Grosso (29) - Maxwell (25)
    Vieira (30) - Cambiasso (26)
Stankovic (28 ) - he is young enough
Figo (34) - the only replacement we need this summer, and he and Zanetti take turns here this season
    Dacourt (32) - Mariano (25)
    Crespo (31) - Adriano (25)
    Cruz (32) - Ibra (25)

And we got extras like Samuel, Solari, Recoba, carini, etc... Mancio has done very well, we just need 1-2 new players every season and we are cool! Thats how it should be.

I finally saw Bojan (Krkic) play in the Meridien Cup Europe U-18 v Africa U-18. Was really impressed by him. VERY talented kid. wouldn't mind 'Bojan' (that was what he had on the backside of his shirt) at Arsenal. With this squad as the base, and a coupla quality replacements every season, we hope to dominate all competitions, not just Serie A. If in the next 3 seasons Inter does not win at least a coupla scudetto's and a CL, there are going to be a lot of disappointed nerazzurri and a coach looking for a job!

We nerazzurri are a peaceful lot... we only expect one thing now.... World Domination! Wink

Think that's about right. We could do with a young first team striker and rightback, but that's about it. Could easily have put in the likes of Anderson for rightwing, or even Reina and Xabi who are both under 25.

Average age is something like 20.6 if I've worked it out right, but my maths is shit.

Le Tallec doesn't have a real future at Liverpool does he though?

If mean he wasn't even assigned a squad number this season and if he was that good he would be at a better French club than Sochaux.

Pongolle on the other hand has a real chance. <Ale>

To be fair, Sochaux are in 4th and just one point off a Champions League place. Le Tallec is surely their best player because the French league is filled with dross Ale

He doesn't have a chance though, no. He'll suit a 2nd rate league like France better.

    Are they. Embarassed

Don't really keep an eye on the French League much anymore. Not with Lyons complete monopoly of it.

Just goes to show though doesn't it. You can be highly rated at 17 and still not live up to the potential later on in their career. Its a gamble we take often.

Best young teams in Italy.... its a roman derby:

    Roma:

    ------------------Curci (21)
    Defendi (20)--- Mexes (24)--- Chivu (25)
    Mancini (26) - Acquilani (22) - De Rossi (23) - Faty (20) - Rosi (19
    -------Okaka (17) - Vucinic (23)

    Lazio:
    ---------------------------Berni (23)
    Cribari (26) - Diakite (19) - Mudingayi (25) - Stendardo (25)
    Behrami (21) - Di Silvestre (18)- Jiminez (22) - Ledesma (24)
    ---------------Makinwa (23) - Pandev (23)

But the best young squad in Italy is certainly Fiorentina:

    --------------------------Frey (26)
    Potenza (22) - Gamberini (25) - Tagliani (17) - Pasqual (24)
    Montolivo (21) - Donadel (23) - Kuzmanovic (19) - Ribeiro (19)
    --------------Pazzini (22) - Reginaldo (23)

And many of their starters are only 25-26 years old.... very young team, and extremely talented. Thats why I wasn't surpised that they bought Lupoli. Fiorentina are the Arsenal of Italy.

Though I hope Bojan develops into a 9 rather than a 10. Been a while since we had a homegrown striker.

    For Lyon:

    BOUCHARD (19)

    CLERC (24) BERTHOD (22) BENHAMIDA (19)

    KALLSTROM (24) TOULALAN (24) BEN ARFA (19) BEYNIE (19)

    BENZEMA (19) REMY (19) BETTIOL (20)

    Average 20.72

Some might flop because I haven't seen them play (Bouchard, Beynie and Benhamida. Others have real talents: Bettiol, Clerc, Toutalan, Kallstrom, Benzema, Ben Arfa, especially the last 4.
