Well you can't legislate against a goal like that from Neymar. Pleased with our performance, we didn't look nervous or awed. Honda is so in the shop window.

Re: Confederations Cup
Blatter was largely booed in his speech before the game. Then president Dilma Rousseff had the same treatment.
Blatter, shocked, says in good Portuguese: gentlemen, where's the fair play? The boos increase.
Man, this is getting interesting.

Seriously, how can Daniel Alves be a professional footballer? I've heard he's good in Barcelona (I don't watch more than 1 or 2 euro club games per year, so I don't really know), but I never saw him playing one single good game for Brazil. In fact he's usually below mediocrity.

Man that was awful refereeing. Would just allow Brazil to foul the Japanese players as they got attacking momentum to kill it. They did it all game and no cards. Ever hear of a yellow card for repeated fouling ref?

Re: Confederations Cup
Brazil need a more talented midfield 2 behind the 3 and a better CF.
Fred is a great old-school penalty box striker but without wishing to sound like Brenton rogers they need a 9.5 rather than a number 9.
Fabiano and Fred will just be in the width of the 18 yard box and they will be fine for goals against weaker teams in the group but they need a more rounded modern forward.
Someone who can not only play on the shoulder of CB and run on to passes from Oscar, Neymar but someone who can also drop deep and play in Oscar, Neymar, Hulk as they run beyond him.
That man is clearly Vagner Love but it won't happen.
Rather than play Honda in the hole and kagawa left or Honda coming in from the right and kagawa in the hole or in from the left they may need to pay Honda as a false 9 and Kagawa in the hole - Maeda is good but Honda would give them a bit of oomph up there and would get kagawa into favourite position.
Keown said that Honda should play deeper and pull the strings - I couldn't agree less, he is the matchwinner not the playmaker and a player with his type of skills should be in the final third, Endo can pull the strings.
I think Japan are also much weaker at CB than WC '10.
I think a lot of fans/pundits thought either Tulio or Nakazawa were pushing for a place in best XI of the tournament and Yoshida and Konno as a pair are not as reliable.

I'm pretty sure Honda swore (in Japanese) at the ref for exactly that after Luiz cluttered him early in the match.

Interesting Brazil looks like the physical side will be a big part of their game plan or just another way to play against some smaller grittier sides that could surprise you.
Neymar did okay brilliant technique for the opening goal.

Have you explained why that was going on? Dilma Rousseff deserved it. There were demos in a few cities including Brasilia. That one was stopped by police. It seems that Rousseff is blamed for not saying a word about FIFA lapping up the perks. Also the National Stadium is a huge joke Great stadium but utterly useless as Brasilia is currently in Brasil's 4th Division. Protesters are rightly saying wtf is going to be done with that stadium now?
Blatter, shocked, says in good Portuguese: gentlemen, where's the fair play? The boos increase.

In Recife now. Stadium looks good, but if you know where to look it plainly has not been completed yet.
Forgot to say met Cafu on way out of Brasilia yesterday. Nice guy And by the way, Glenn I have neither forgotten nor forgiven the insult to my mother.

Italy playing quite well, apart from that stupid Barzagli mistake which resulted in the penalty. Some great passing and pressing. Excellent freekick goal by Pirlo, and perhaps a penalty which wasn't given.
Good game to watch so far.

Really? I was just making it up, was pretty close then, but 92% is outrageous. Uaregay would have had a higher possesion if they would be 5-0 down already with the kickoffs all the time.
Oohh 1-0 Spain. Pedro. Must say, if Spain starts to play a proper attacker, and starts to shoot from distance they could become even more dangerous..

Spain 2-0! Spain are playing a sort of football that is the smallpox version for the South-Americans. They are so dominant that Urugay arent even able to deploy their usual antics. I remember when this WC was given to Brazil, and thought it was a certain WC title for Brazil. Now I think its more of a question which European side is gonna win the WC!

More likely, which team is going to beat Spain.
Argentina could, if they had a great day. Maybe Brazil, if they get their act together. I don't see any European side beating this Spain. Italy, maybe, if Prandelli abandons his philosophy and stops trying to out-Spain Spain... the only way Italy can beat this Spanish side is the old fashioned way - dig your heels deep, and see out the storm. Let them keep possession, and hit them on counters. But that is not the Prandelli way unfortunately.
