Well I don't judge players solely on assists and goals anyway so it doesn't really matter, Banega is much more than a "stat padder". You will see when he leads Argentina to a World Cup.

Re: La Liga 2012/13 Season Thread
So Valencia have nudged ahead of la Real for the 4th CL place. Still up for grabs though. Last fixtures for the two are Sevilla-Valencia and Deportivo-R. Sociedad. Valencia probably have the advantage since Sevilla have nothing to play for whilst Deportivo are still in a relegation battle.
4 Valencia 37 19 8 10 64 50 65
5 R. Sociedad 37 17 12 8 69 49 63
At the bottom of the table, any combination of the last four can still go down on the last day.
17 Deportivo 37 8 11 18 47 69 35
18 Celta Vigo 37 9 7 21 36 52 34
19 Zaragoza 37 9 7 21 36 59 34
20 Mallorca 37 8 9 20 39 70 33
Fixtures on the last day are:
Deportivo-R. Sociedad
Celta-Espanyol
Zaragoza-Atlético
Mallorca-Valladolid
Deportivo are the only club facing an opponent with anything to play for. But they are also the only club that hold their own destiny. If they win, they are safe. All of them are playing at home as well which is interesting. Mallorca obviously have to win. In the case they win and Deportivo draw Deportivo have the goal average tie breaker since they won 1-0 and 2-3 in their head to head meetings. Celta and Zaragoza are tied at the moment and if they were both to win Celta has the goal average tie breaker. If Deportivo loses, and both Celta and Zaragoza draw (assuming Mallorca do not win) then it then it gets very tricky. I don't remember how the tie is broken if there are three teams all tied on points. Anyhow, should be a last day with plenty of drama.

Re: La Liga 2012/13 Season Thread
Elche, of course, are already promoted. The rest of the promotion battle is shaping up like this:
2 Villarreal 40 19 14 7 64 38 71
3 Almería 40 21 8 11 70 48 71
4 Girona 40 21 7 12 72 53 70
5 Alcorcón 40 20 6 14 53 51 66
6 Ponferradina 40 19 7 14 53 46 64
7 Las Palmas 40 17 12 11 60 53 63
Villarreal have moved in to second place although still tied on points with Almeria and Girona is just one behind. Second through 4th have at least guaranteed a place in the playoff.

And now it's Banega scoring a great goal and moments later he converts a penalty as well, 2:1 for Sevilla. And now red card for Jonas as well.

Re: La Liga 2012/13 Season Thread
Banega Superstar can't even deliver the CL for Valencia!
So happy to see Real Sociedad make the CL. I think they have a much better job of keeping their team together than Valencia. Just have to find a proper replacement for Montanier.
Sad to see Depor heading back to the second division but they are in a real mess. Wish both of the Galician sides could have stayed up but happy for Celta Vigo. They will have a big job to replace Aspas next year but hopefully they can consolidate and move onwards.

Also no varane Madrid conceded more goals than us which is pretty shocking, he was something else for about 10 games, but has return to a normal level over the past couple of games.

Re: La Liga 2012/13 Season Thread
Btw, Montanier signed a few 3 years contract with Rennes. They are one of the biggest underachievers in France for years, maybe it will be him who will finally change it.
Also, Villarreal defeated Barcelona B 3:0 yesterday, with around 10k Yellow Submarine fans going to Catalunya to watch game live. Barcelonad had a lot of good scoring opportunities in 1st half, but Juan Carlos had an amazing game.
Villarreal needs a win or a draw (0:0 or 1:1) against Almeria next week to win back a promotion to Primera. Hopefully they will finish a job at El Madrigal.
