Amusing how Bale is getting all the blame for Ozil leaving when in reality it's the arrival of Isco who forced him out. #Don'tBlameTheSpanish

I also missed out the part where Los Blancos won everything in sight over the past 3 years. You'd think they'd never lost the league by 15 points and were beaten by their rivals for the national cup on their own ground. Had Ozil already left before then?

Isco didn't force anyone out. He's a talented kid who was signed because he was the hottest property in Spanish football. Özil was offered to a number of clubs because Real Madrid needed some money to finance the Bale transfer. Plus, when given the choice, Ancelotti decided to keep Di Maria and let Özil go, so Özil's sale is on Perez and Ancelotti both.

Real Madrid were in the shadow of a very strong Barcelona side indeed during Özil's time there, but they at least won the league and remained competitive, battering the shit out of the rest of the league instead of struggling against minnows and more or less losing the league in the first month already. But revisionism seems very en vogue these days...

    Revisionism?

Madrid after Matchday 8 this season = 19 points

Madrid after Matchday 8 last season = 14 points

Umlaut propaganda - Madrid were 18 points down on Barca after Matchday 19 last season Blut! Atletico were head of them for ages, and would've finished 2nd if not for a lack of depth.

As soon as Isco was signed Ozil was put on the wing in pre-season, which by all accounts he was very unhappy about. He didn't have the heart to fight for his place (sensitive boy) which is why he was sold and Di Maria (the more obvious choice) wasn't.

Not just picking on Ozil because his always happens anytime a talented player his kicked out to make room for the new Galatico signing.

Higuain, Sneijder, Van der Vaart, Robben, Sahin, Gago, Faubert, Huntelaar etc. As soon as they leave Madrid, they become the best thing ever, simply because it's fun to take the piss out of Perez.

Madrid were in turmoil last season due to Mourinho's antics and psychotic tendencies. Mourinho had already won the league in the season prior to that, but lost the dressing room for various reasons that are well documented. You're comparing his last season in Madrid to the first season of Ancellotti, which is bona fide revisionism indeed. Where is the enthusiasm and energy that usually comes with a new coach? Even Mourinho managed to create some enthusiasm at first.

The problem with your argument regarding Özil is that he clearly was one of Madrid's best players, there is a reason why many fans told Perez not to sell him during the presentation of Bale. There is a reason why so many Madrid fans are still very unhappy about him leaving. So Madrid didn't just sell a talented player, they sold one of their key performers to finance a player the president wanted no matter what. None of the players you mentioned had a similar status at Madrid. And it's because of this well earned status that Özil felt hard done by and thought that the management lacked respect, so he decided to move on. If Özil was that "sensitive" player you are trying to paint here, he would have never moved to that snakepit in first place. And he would have never established himself there.

It basically boils down to Ancellotti not rating and trusting him. If this decision was the right one for Madrid remains to be seen. For Özil however, leaving Madrid most definitely was.

I don't know if this is a case of being unable to see the wood from the trees, or a casual bit of wummery combined with bitterness, but there's a clear difference between letting a player could be reasonably called your 2nd best player, and was integral to your playing style go, and letting those players go - their:

2nd choice striker, rich mans Lampard, Fat mans Lampard, CR rivalling ball hog, physically and mentally lightweight player, and an average player.

And I don't really think this here is revisionism. They're all solid players, but none of them, with the exception of Robben (although he too has had his ups and downs) are the calibre of Mesut Ozil.

It's probably a truism saying Madrid are always in turmoil. Last season, they were completely dysfunctional, and this season, they're trending the same way.

Of course, this isn't Bales fault, but you do a deal with the devil...

    Guys,

This is not me doubting Ozil one bit, even if his big game record is sketchy. I agree that Robben aside he's better than all those players, but IMO it doesn't make the point any less invalid. People like to exaggerate the abilities of ex-Madrid players, as it's funny to mock them/Perez for the amounts they spend.

However, I find people making out that selling him and buying Bale was an error of Makelélé/Beckham proportions a bit silly. Simplifying Madrid's problems to Bale in/Ozil out is foolish in the extreme. Isco was meant to take over Ozil's role, not Bale. Alonso's absence (and the stability he brings) is barely mentioned. Illaramendi is finding it hard to step up. Yet it's the fault of British guy who has played about 2hrs all season.

Robben is definitely at the level of Ozil (regardless of style of play) and Sneijder, despite my dislike of him has the whole of 2009-10 to fall back on (which, let's be honest, Ozil doesn't have as dominant a year on his CV).

But Ozil doesnt have the depts Midget, whoms carreer is finished after the last WC, had...I doubt he will ever be influential as Midget was in that fluke season with Inter, their WC2010 were on the same level I guess...though I prefer Ozil.

However, Ozil is sold to make up for the Bale buy.

carlo and madrid are beyond lucky it isn't less than 19 points in fact less than the 14 jose has this season.

Ozil was sold to help buy for bale's transfer their is no doubt about that, their is little doubt that without him in the team, Madrid as of now are not as creative a team, and are lucky to still even been in the title race, the only player in the madrid XI that's creating jack right now is DI maria who will be benched as soon as Bale is fit.

whats also funny is that they said Ozil didn't show up in the important games, but just because a game isn't against one of the biggest teams doesn't mean it isn't important, yesterday's game was pretty important, just watch how ronaldo behaved after the goal, and where was ISCO, where was he against elche, atletico, villarreal and i think betis, all games where madrid struggled big time, because the team gave them the ball and closed down the space, madrid's biggest weakness., where was he for spain at the Olympics when teams did the same thing.

Isco is a great talent and fine player, but he is no Mesut Özil. If Ancelotti / Real really believed him to be the ideal replacement, they're foolish to say at the very least.

I wrote in the summer when the Bale transfer was nothing more than media chatter that Madrid finally had the players to form a formidable team. Isco would have benefitted massively from playing together with Özil, as would have Özil, for once, by sharing the creative burden or at the very least having a team mate on a similar wavelength, a proper footballer with great skill and instinct.

Isco is a fine attacking midfielder with a strong goal scoring instinct. When it comes to German players, the closest we have to him is Marco Reus. Neither Isco, nor Reus are playmakers. They have a different focus, their movement is different and their instincts are different. It doesn't mean that they can't be creative and provide assists, of course they can. But they don't have that '360° awareness' of Özil, or Iniesta for that matter. Özil in particular is simply amazing at reading the game, moving into space and doing the right thing at the right time. He's a 100% team player whose main focus is to keep things going, to make things happening together with his team mates, not primarily by himself - he is one of those few players who improve the team as a whole. You could say that Isco is more of an individualist, while Özil is more of a team player. They are different.
