My, the groups are a piece of piss. What a horrible, horrible idea to expand the number of teams to 24 for the next Euros. Grr

Looking forward to it though regardless, may go to a few matches even.

yup! and it means top 2 qualify automatically and 3rd place guarantees a playoff Laughing definitely no excuse for any major country to fail to qualify. would have to be an almighty fuckup.

big chance for likes of Wales and Hungary who I don't think have been at a major tournament in my lifetime

Holland is in the group of death again, can see them fail to qualify.

    Though, 24 is bad.

Euros used to be harder then the WC. Now, im not sure.

They will be harder in the latter stages of the tournament, similar to the old format. In the early stages, there will be more canon fodder. But it's good news for the smaller countries though, this way they can improve their game and gain some tournament experience.

    Btw... "group of death"? lol!

You know that the first two teams are guaranteed to qualify, and even the third placed teams can still qualify through play-offs? It's a joke. If any of the "bigger" nations fails to qualify, they should stop playing football.

Will this give another stage though? Euros never had round of 16.

I think its a pity it's in France again. Close to home but they "recently" had a tournament.

Not sure if I go over there. Tickets will be too high, and I never understood why people go to another country just to stand on a fanfest.

I think the Euro tickets will be cheaper than WC tickets. Not exactly cheap, at least going by our standards and not EPL standards, but not overly expensive either.

There will be a round of 16, yes. Six groups, first two of each group qualify for the next round plus the best four third placed teams, similar to the old WC Format before 1998.

Scotland and Ireland actually have a good chance to qualify this time. Poland are a bit shit as a team, despite a number of quality players.

Scotland play us after the friendly vs. Argentina on September 3rd, ironically the first match Germany play after the WC. That will probably help them, as the tackles will be flying... Smile

Yep, which means pointless groups in the final phase as well - 6 groups with the 4 best 3rds going thru, hardly a challenge.

I like the round of 16, anyway, just 2 KO games to reach the final never felt enough to me.

Yay I like that a lot too.
It'd be fun, a one-month mini-CL for NTs across Europe.

It's not clear if it's a one-off to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Euros (which in turn is a clever way to disguise that with the current economy there were no host bids apart a half assed one from Turkey), or if it will be the new standard.
I think it should, in the end we're such a small continent - I mean we're barely bigger than brazil, and just thanks to european Russia which is almost half of the total.

I hope it becomes the new standard. Imagine no more slave people dying! That would be a great start. No more Qatar, Russia, Brazil, China, South-Africa building dodgy stadiums. Would be better if they spread it over the football calender year as well, but I will miss a month of football in the summer every biannual year.

We survived (barely) 1st half against Germany and scored at the beginning of 2nd thanks to Piszczek cross and Milik header.

30 minutes left though and it will be very difficult to keep clean sheet. Germans are all over us (no 1939 joke from me).

    We won!!!

We were playing quite conventional 4-4-2 and its which probably suits us the best, two hard working CMs, two pacy wingers and two centre forwards, where Lewandowski all around game is really solid. Him, Krychowiak, Glik and Szczesny all had spectacular games, it was probably the best ever performance by Szczesny. He didn't have too many difficult saves to make, but was very confident with all the crosses and was also coordinating his defenders very well.

Lewandowski did a great work on Durm to setup a 2nd goal scored by a substitute Mila.

In reality it's Poland 4 - Germany 0, as this year our men's teams have beaten them in handball, volleyball, basketball and now football, all in big tournaments or qualifications to it. Never before happened something like this.

I guess payback for it can be potentially quite severe Smile. But will worry about it tomorrow.

We were worried about scenario where we would put a huge effort in a game against Germany and would still lose. Then 3 days later we would be too tired to compete against Scotland. I guess the latter still can happen, but at least we have 3 points stolen today.
