Pochettino's expression of his face when he went to shake hands with Pardew. lol! lol! lol!

A combination of relief and pity "thank you for making not one but two substitutions during a corner kick completely creating chaos in your team, thank you very much!".

Well last season was arguably the worst in terms of quality in premier league history, and after seeing Leicester win the league by having a good team spirit and a simple system, teams have decided to spunk their bank accounts all over the faces of agents and players, clearly learning nothing.

It's more and more difficult to defend Pardew when Crystal Palace keeps losing, but in this situation he had a choice - either had half fit Delaney defending corner (I watched full match) or bring fresh Tomkins... who in the end was responsible for Wanyama goal. It's easy to criticize him, but probably plenty of other managcers would do the same, as Delaney was seriously beat up (in footballing terms).

It's just more of a "when things go wrong, they go really wrong" situation than manager's mistake.

Playing Puncheon as "8" on the other side... Doh

Decent performance for Everton to win at West Brom. Mirallas goal for 1:1 for really nicely done, some great interplay around the penalty box.

I actually rate managers who are able to admit that they've made a mistake and/or are ready to change personnel before half time. Koeman did it with Lukaku replacing McCarthy after McAuley scored.

Bolasie had a decent cameo, alrady should have at least one assist, but Barkley missed a free header and Lukaku was stopped by Foster in 1 on 1.

Decent start. Strong for his goal vs Stoke. His hold up play was excellent too.

He's a bit quicker than I expected too. He struggled a little bit more yesterday but his moment was still good and his coolness setting up Stuani for the second was excellent. Again his hold up play and general link up and awareness was all good.

    Promising I'd say.

Yes, he is relatively quick for guy of his size, also uses his body well, should remind you of Yakubu in this aspect.

Hopefully he will keep scoring, 1 in 3 should be a good record from him, when including his quality all around game.

Not sure we can judge him properly yet still. 3 games into the season - won 2, lost 1, scored 9, conceded 5.

It tells me we have some way to go defensively under Klopp but we may not see any improvement until Karius returns in goal or we sort out the left back issue.

It tells me that our attack, when functioning, is one of the best in the league.

Consistency has to be the aim - I think the midfield is weak, particularly without Can so Klopp needs to strengthen this area too.

I'd say we must be in around the top 4 by January - we have no excuses not to be with a big squad and no Europe.

Post by Luis Thu Aug 25, 2016 4:48 pm

I'd agree that tactically I haven't been too impressed in some big games; Sevilla obviously springs to mind where we had no answer to them scoring 3 quick goals.

I didn't want much of the German league when he won it with Dortmund but I suppose he must have set his Dortmund teams up pretty well to win those titles. He did lead us to two cup finals last season but I'm not sure how tactically good we were against say Dortmund in that run up - it was just a mad game. Same with the Arsenal win this season or the Nowich 5-4 win last season. Yes it's great to score that many goals in a game but can you say it's tactically good when you're conceding goals for fun as well?

The defensive issues are big IMO. I don't know how you remedy that when you have Mignolet in goal - I don't think he's been good enough for a good year and a half now if not longer. Can a defence ever be good when there's no faith in a keeper behind them? I'm not sure.

Currently I think Klopp is making mistakes in midfield. I'm really not sure what his thinking is in bringing Winaljdum in. He's clearly not a central midfielder and has looked poor playing there but I don't know if that's been a forced decision due to injuries to Can and Lucas. Saying that though it didn't make much sense to let Allen go while we had these issues and I'm not sure why we haven't signed a defensive midfielder - something we are crying out for.

Whatever problems we've had in that are though to lose 2-0 to Burnley is unacceptable and I think it comes down to mentality problems. I still don't see any leaders out there. I mean Henderson is our captain; don't get me wrong, he's good enough on his day but is he a top quality leader and player consistently? I don't think so. Who would get the arm band after him? Milner?

I don't mind how we are going - I think we'll more often that not be fun to watch and without Europe we should be fitter and take advantage to aim for top 4 but I can't see how we can win trophies with this current defence and keeper. United, City and Chelsea all have the keeper issue sorted - Pep has understood the importance of it for example.
