dont you realize how similar essien and gerrard are. park ronaldo are wingers, carrick is not in anyway an attacking midfielder, playmaker maybe attacking midfielder not at all. scholes giggs both coming to an end. Gerrard would be very good. essien is not a dm, he is box to box same with gerrard. gerrard slightly more attacking ok

Ashley Cole perhaps....because the way he plays would suit our side very well.

You'd never get the best out of Carrick playing him with Gerrard. Like at Liverpool you'd never get the best of Alonso playing him next to Gerrard.

Essien does much more defensive work than Gerrard, like Gerrard does much more attacking work than Essien.

Anyway, until we see Clichy back from injury we must be happy that he can do the job. For Southampton - no doubt in my mind: Cristiano Ronaldo. Mainly because you can imagine how good he'd be in the Championship, but also because every team (except Chelsea) needs a Ronaldo.

As much as i want to say Essien(him and Parker would be the shit), i'm going to have to say Ledley King.

Maybe, your right. I'm not sure what Carrick prefers yet. I first thought he'd be happy sitting back dictating play, but he's also tried to get forward, especially against Benfica.

At one point he was the sides furthest man forward

Carrick will sit if he doesnt have a typical DM playing alongside him and if has I think we will see more of his forward runs.

I think we need a player like Ronaldo most right now. With Joe Cole out, Robben just finding some form again, Kalou new to the league and SWP playing poorly, we need someone like Ronaldo who can go past players with ease
