Agree and what I've been saying for a long time. He is the John Terry of his generation, inspirational leader, average footballing ability but made up for it with his athletic ability and the attitude to get "stuck in".

Don't remember those games mentioned previously in the thread, but when you guys claim keane played zidane off the park you actually mean contained him, pressured him, tackled him etc. You don't actually mean that Keane turned him inside out with his skill on the ball and his passing ability.

Just a bollocks statement tweedle, simply nonsense.
He is regarded by most as the best prem player ever either him or shearer, so 5th without british players is surely a shock, if there wasnt so many mad choices and players all over the place i might of got annoyed by it.

He was really containing Zidane when he was scoring that header wasn't he.

He wasnt a destroyer that just broke up plays (like Sissoko or Maka) ,he was the driving force of the United midfield , his technical ability is very underrated.

My comment was based on his playing style. Stifling the opposition, pressuring, tackling etc is what he was good at. When you say played off the park that's a bit different. That implies spraying the ball around, controlling posession, creating chance after chance.

So keane headed a corner or was it in open play?

Agree he was better than them, especially with his passing, but scholes, giggs and beckham provided the creativity and attacking threat.

He was about the same as Ince.

I did watch the game, I said I didn't remember it. Been to the optician's yet?

I can easily google it and read a match report to jog my memory.

I understand that you cannot argue against my point about "playing zidane off the park" so you resort to this.

Well played, a great argument you have put forward Razz

Best is an abstract term. Is there a consensus on what best is? Is it purely football ability or is it a combinations of all attributes that make a player what he is?

Well he may not be the best footballer or the most talented but he's contribution to his team in the Premiership period, far outweighs any one's elses.

I remember a young Roy Keane playing for Forest. He ran everywhere, tackled everything, started moves on the edge of his own box, running the length of the field to crash the ball into the opponents net. He was, without doubt, one of the most promising players that I have ever seen emerge.
Then, he joined Man Utd, and turned into little more than a thug, whose main attribute was to intimidate the opposition. A bit like Vinnie Jones, only able to trap a ball.
Maybe it's a pity he didn't play longer for Forest, giving Clough more time to teach him to curb his natural agression, instead of playing for Ferguson who encouraged still more the violent side of his play.
