Javier Mascherano has vowed to remain at West Ham, despite his national team manager urging he and Carlos Tevez to jump ship.
Neither Mascherano nor former Corinthians colleague Tevez have been able to make their mark at The Hammers thus far, despite the tremendous fanfare which accompanied the pair's arrival in the East End.
West Ham have lost all four matches in which Mascherano has featured, and Argentina manager Alfio Basile believes it would be in the pair's best interest to leave the Premiership strugglers.
Basile even claimed that their heart was not in the move - a claim which will worry Upton Park fans.
But Mascherano insists he is still acclimatising to life in London, and it may not be until next season before supporters see the best of him.
"In a football club like this you need time to adapt," Mascherano told the London Evening Standard. "Maybe the first year is just about getting to know it.
"My idea is to stay a long time because it is not right for a player to spend just a year in one country, that's too hard. My wife and baby daughter have joined me and we are looking for somewhere permanent to live."
