United 2-0 Liverpool, my perspective Empty United 2-0 Liverpool, my perspective

Post by Luis Sun Oct 22, 2006 2:55 pm

Well what can I say, it's the same old story isn't it for Liverpool, start well, then let United into the game, concede a goal from a defensive error and then never look like scoring the rest of the game.

The main problem is our big players aren't performing, Gerrard looks like half the player he was last season, he's been very, very poor, i don't care if he's the captain or not, that's the truth.

players like Alonso and Sissoko aren't playing as well as they should now, Luis was very poor today for most parts as well.

Up front is a major problem again this season for Liverpool, we just dont have a player who you know is going to score most games, like Owen was for us and like Henry is for Arsenal or Johnson at Everton.

The only player I would give any credit to today from Liverpool is Mark Gonzales who i thought gave it his all and looked fairly dangerous.

Is the title race over for Liverpool now? yes, no two ways about it, it's been a very bad season so far, i think our aim should be to win the champions league and try and win the fa cup again plus finish top 4.

I'm not pessimistic but 11 points is far too much to win back now.

    My perspective:

Reina - decent. Great save towards the end of the first half.

    Finnan - shit
    Carragher - Shit
Hyypia - Send him to Florida.
Riise - looked like he'd get a nosebleed if he had to play with the ball at his feet.

    Alonso - Shit
Momo - Ran around, which atleast seperates him for most of the dross.
    Gerrard - Shit
Gonzalez - Only remotely bright spark we had first half, even if quality was lacking.

    Garcia - Shit

    Kuyt - See Momo.

Liverpool will have to fight to finish 4th in the league this season in my opinion, after todays result. teams that could finish 4th:

Bolton - look good this season with Anelka upfront. beat liverpool this season.
Everton - finished 4th a 2 seasons ago, so its not impossible. beat liverpool this season.
Villa - undefeated so far in the league, will make signings in Jan.
Portsmouth - have a very strong squad and i think Harry will sign more players in Jan.

I think Gerrard shoudl be playing more in the centre of the midfield rather than next to the sideline.

Once ManUtd scored the first goal it was donde for Liverpool. they had to go get the game against a team that already had the advantage and that's not something liverpool are used to, in fact they are used to quite the opposite.

I think Liverpool lack a player like Robinho, Rooney, or Kaka. I think you guys have a strong squad but you really lack flair players who will dribble past opponents and cause havock to other defenses. You could say that Gerrard can go past players occasionally, but he needs a lot of space to do it. He basically storms through them rather than really dribbling them. Without much space, Gerrard can't really beat a man.

It's also a problem that none of your strikers have much flair either. Kuyt, Bellamy, and Crouch all have quality, but they will also struggle to go past a player. Kuyt must have tried it at least 5 times today and he got nowhere.

Garcia can pull off nice dribbles every once in a while but you can't really count on him doing it every game. I think that in the January transfer window Benitez should dig in the South American leagues and buy a couple of flair players.

I'm not saying that Liverpool's problems all boil down to this, but I do think it is a big problem you guys have.

I haven't seen any of the games where Gerrard has played in the middle this season, but he was ineffective there last season before he got shifted to the right and according to Liverpool fans, he hasn't done much there this year when he's played in the middle.

Nevertheless, Gerrard's best performances for Liverpool in his time there have definitely been when playing in the middle.

like i said 2 days ago, Crouch scored the winning goal agaist Man Utd in the Fa Cup last season, so he should start.

instead Rafa tried to copy what Arsenal did and play 4-5-1.

I don't care what we get for the money. It's just getting to the stage where Gerrard's mere presence is becoming bigger than the club. Whether this is a problem in the dressing room or not is irrelevent. The fact that every game this season has revolved around where he's played this season is worrying for a Liverpool fan, not a Gerrard fan.

I thought Liverpool should have gone for 442 , try to take the game to United , they never really threatened.
They didnt even dominate in the midfield , United had 58% possesion , for which Im surprised.

Nothing out of the ordinary. He showed us what would happen - on a subuteo table - if we played with Gerrard in the centre. Whilst, like every know-nothing-pub-pundit (Steve Claridge step forward) failing to address the obvious question - "who to drop".

Didn't stop him from spending a good 10 minutes on that subject though, whilst ignoring his inept displays in the centre recently.

Momo, Gonzalez and Kuyt all deserve a 4 if I'm being generous.

Yo Brian! Setanta Sports showed it, but you didn't miss anything. It was a really dull match. Bundesliga gave us a great Bremen-Bayern yesterday. Holland gave a very good AZ-PSV. Let's see how Portugal, France and Spain do today with Sporting-Porto, Marseille-Lyon, and Real Madrid-Barcelona respectively. <Ale>
