    @TS,

    this is what I imagine Otto to look like (well, until he co-operates and puts up a picture in the offtopic thread, I have no alternative do I? Wink ). Note the fabulous 'tache and mullet combo (which, rather like marsupials to Australasia, or infact David Hasselhoff records- is completely indigenous to Central Europe) and offshot the LA Gear bumbag and clarks sandals worn with white socks:

    I read that quite incredulous statement too, but chose to ignore it. Bless him, Deisler tries hard, but he repeatedly proves he doesnt watch much football outside of Germany. Not to be take too seriously

    Not a good game from Michael Ballack last night. It seemed to me he wasn't overly motivated against his national team mates...Per Mertesacker said before the match Ballack would obviously prefer Bremen to reach the next round in the CL instead of Barca. After all winning the CL is only one dream of him, winning the EC another one. And therefore it's important that our national players can also play in the CL...Chelsea didn't need the points last night, they will top Group A anyway.

    could be. Ballack didnt look overly bothered about missing. For him it was probably a double whammy- have Barca out, and help his German brethren through..

    Although I doubt any of those playes wanted to lose, but I bet they're not so sore about it today when you couple in that Chelsea have to play United on sunday aswell.

    Poor timing for Barcelona indeed (although I cant see Barca not winning at the Camp Nou)

    I know.. It was just a tonge in cheek comment... I don't think Chelsea played to lose, but it is alwyas more difficult to play with the same fire when the pressure is off..

    the ONE had a poor game

    his miss was not that bad though, the ball was neither on the ground nor at head height , nor was there time to take it properly as a volley

    obviously, Bremen completely outplayed Chelsea in the first half, reminiscent of Barca at Stamford Bridge a year ago

    Chelsea then still failed to exert any pressure in the early stages of the second half, whereupon Bremen started concentrating on defending their lead

    a 100% deserved win

    the Sun ratings of Frings = Ballack, Merte= Terry, Klose at 7, Wiese = Cuddicini ....

    LOL stuff

    @Otto,

    yep, Chelsea were very slow starting whilst Bremen were straight out of the blocks. But once the goal went in, and for virtually the whole second half, Chelsea played pretty well.

    Credit to Bremen for looking organised and solid after the goal. Worth their win

    Interesting why you pick out the woodcutter AGAIN for criticism. If this were a playground you would be deemed a bully! The goal was Drogba's error; apart from that, Chelsea looked solid at the back against an effective attacking unit (minus Klose)

    Diego was v impressive, but I think we all expected that anyway.

    Unfortunately my mind was on Csaba Feher and PSV at Liverpool, where the Hungarian and his Dutch compatriots were taught a footballing lesson by Liverpool, who looked mightily impressive against the Dutch Champions.

    Bremen would do well to stear clear of Rafa's side if they get through- they look primed for Cup Competition this season with no League to worry about, and possibly the most impressive of all the EPL sides in Europe so far this season

    OK, first of all, I'm very happy that we have qualified with one match to go (that match being the easiest of the 6).Very happy.

    I don't think we played to lose last night, but we did, so congratulations Bremen. Ale

    OK, time for the rants...

    I'm slightly disappointed by the team's 'lack of urgency'. They seemed to be taking it very easy after going 1-0 down, and despite dominating posession 2nd half, they were never really testing Wiese.

    I think the game showed just how much we missed Lampard too. Like him or hate him, he always seems to come up with the important goals/passes. Big pressure was put on Ballack last night, and he played arguably his worst performance of the season (ironically, the only game he has played without Lampard, I believe).

    Defence was fine. Boula made a fantastic block, whilst Terry had Klose in his pocket. I thought Geremi was distinctly average, and Ashley Cole had a good game. Diego was really the only player who troubled our defence.

    I thought our final pass was poor. Obi Mikel looks like he may well become 'the real deal', but for f*cks sake! Learn some discipine man...

    I'm also slightly disappointed by the ref. Sure, we got some lucky free kicks, but the FK which eventually lead to their goal Doh Rolling Eyes Surely one of the linesman/4th official must have seen it. I don't even think it was a dive.

    I also think our players (in particular our offensive players) got very little from the ref last night. Wome was constantly elbowing players, and some of the other challenges were poor. Nothing you can do about it now.

    Nevertheless, through to the 2nd round, with Levski at home to come... I think that all but guarantees us as group winners.

    Disappointed we lost our unbeaten run though. Ale

    I think those Sun ratings are a bit unfair. Boula deserved much more than a 4. The defence was hardly tested (certainly in the last 60 minutes, when I think Bremen didn't have a shot). Klose did not deserve a 7 and I think Ballack was more a 5.

    Shots on target Werder Bremen 3 Chelsea 4
    Corners Werder Bremen 5 Chelsea 4
    Fouls Werder Bremen 21 Chelsea 15
    Offsides Werder Bremen 1 Chelsea 5
