Blackburn Rovers - what are they like? Empty Blackburn Rovers - what are they like?

Post by SuperMario Mon Nov 20, 2006 9:13 pm

haven't seen any full matches of them. Feyenoord have to play them Thursday evening in the UEFA Cup. How do they play tactically? What should we be wary of? What are their weeknesses?

    Any info much appreciated. Cheers!

To be fair, they have softened alot from the 2004/05 season, when they were at there most dirty. Be very wary of the two strikers, McArtney is proved whilst Nonda has looked good so far. They will play quite a few long balls, looking for those two to make runs into the box. They also have two very talented wingers in Pederson and Bentley. You can gurantee their will be plenty of crosses coming in from those two for the two strikers. Both Pederson and Bentley are not goal shy either.

Could be a match with a few cards, we have a few who can kick a bit too. Hope we have a South European ref, they're more pro-home team (especially if the stadium is hectic, which it will be).

Bentley had a good spell this season, but from what I've read he was about invisble this weekend. I fear Benni McCarthy most (& Emerton, because he used to play for us, ex-players tend to do well against us).

This is true. Not to mention they've got some pretty brutal defenders, especially Neill(who i like by the way, good player).

Sorry, I meant McArthey of course! Have always rated Emerton. Also, watch Tugay, after his sending off at the weekend he will be out to continue his superb form, did you see his volley, shows what he's capable of!

Yep rate him very high. What makes it even worse is that we'll be missing our best 2 midfielders (de Guzman and Buijs).

Will be an interesting match we (amazingly) beat in form AZ 3-2 this weekend. They played 4-4-2, we played 3-4-3. Think we'll play that v Blackburn too.

By the way quote from a fan (message board at blackburn's website)

"its a big game for a club like ours, probably the biggest game of our european history (if you can calll it that)"

    Very Happy

apparently they sold all their 2500 tickets, which is good. Always love it when the away team brings some support.

We play this formation against other teams with wingers too. We have two players on each wing so do they. Our defensive wide players are in good shape.

Yep we're 4th now. Don't think we can catch up PSV. So it only matters to finsh in the top 5 (2nd - 5th ranked qualify for CL qualification playoffs)

    From UEFA.com

Blackburn midfielder Brett Emerton was part of the Feyenoord side that won the 2001/02 UEFA Cup. The Australian international spent three seasons in Rotterdam after leaving Sydney Olympic, joining Blackburn in the summer of 2003.

As yet there have been no draws between Feyenoord and an English club in Rotterdam.

Feyenoord coach Erwin Koeman and Blackburn manager Mark Hughes came face to face during their playing careers in a 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifying game between the Netherlands and Wales in Amsterdam on 14 September 1988. The Netherlands won the match 1-0.

Blackburn are yet to meet Dutch opponents in UEFA competition.

    Probable Blackburn team?

Friedel, Emerton, Ooijer, Henchoz, Gray, Bentley, Savage, Tugay, Pedersen, Nonda, McCarthy

Hughes will have good memories of the feyenoord stadium, as a player he scored (was a good finish) and won the Cup Winners Cup final 1991 with Man U in De Kuip. (weird that uefa.com don't mention that)

They are the ultimate draw specialists.

Extremely hard to beat, however they hardly ever batter teams and they don't score much either.

Blackburn are an underrated entity- they are a hard team, but also capable of playing good football.

Gamst and Bentley, when on form, are top wingers, McCarthy is a class above and Nonda's pretty useful.

Savage is past it though- a very limited player these days, apart form the occasional magical setpiece.

It seems our Danny has been making a decent impression in the Kuip Wink

Not having the Guzman is like missing half your team Yikes

....It will be extremely tough for Feyenoord to get a result without him....

They have some real quality do Blackburn - Morten Gamst Pederson is probably their best player but he hasn't been in top form so far.

They also have player like Friedel, Ooijer, Nelson, Neill, Savage, Emerton, Mccarthy, Bentley, roberts and Nonda.

When they're up for it they can be a very good side Ale
